Federer will meet with the media Wednesday to discuss walking away from the game at age 41 after 20 Grand Slam titles. Federer is in London and has been practicing at the arena that will host the indoor hard-court matches for the Laver Cup. The 27-year- old signed an eight-year contract that is worth $100.8 million, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of ano- nymity Tuesday because the team did not announce terms of the contract. His new $12.6 million salary cap hit that goes into effect at the start of the 2023-24 season surpasses Connor McDavid’s $12.5 million as the highest in the league. The Bills did not provide any other details of the extent of Jackson’s injury except to say he was undergoing further evaluation. Jackson was hurt late in the second quarter in the game against the Titans when he tackled receiver Treylon Burks from behind following a 12-yard catch. Thomas, Revis, Freeney headline 1st time Hall can- didates — Six-time All-Pro offensive lineman Joe Thomas, shutdown cornerback Darrelle Revis and speedy pass rusher Dwight Freeney headline the list of nine first-year eligible play- ers picked among the 129 nominees for the 2023 class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The other first-year eligibles are running back Chris Johnson, offensive lineman Jahri Evans, linebackers NaVorro Bowman and James Harrison; defensive back Kam Chancellor and punter Shane Lechler. The list will be reduced to 25 semifinalists in November and to 15 final- ists in January before the selection committee discusses and chooses the class of 2023 that will be enshrined in August. The LIV players are asking in a letter to the OWGR chairman that their results be included retroactively in the world ranking. LIV has 48-man fields that play 54 holes. It ap- plied for world ranking points on July 6. The OWGR typically requires a new tour to function for a year before getting points. Offseason BASEBALL Family sues Little League over bunk bed fall — A Utah boy who suffered a serious head injury after falling from a bunk bed during last month’s Little League World Series has returned home from the hospital and his family is suing the league and the company that made the bed. The family’s lawyer, Ken Fulginiti, said Tuesday that 12-year-old Easton Oliverson has undergone three brain operations and is now experiencing seizures. The lawsuit accuses Little League In- ternational and Savoy Contract Furniture of Williamsport of negligence for using or selling bunk beds without safety rail- ings. Neither defendant immediately responded to messages seeking comment about the lawsuit. Fulginiti says Easton fell off the top bunk in his sleep on Aug. 15. While only a select few play- ers could reach that amount, roughly a dozen have decided to take league marketing agreements this offseason.
