Streaming apps for the
foodie on the go
Foodie apps that tell you where to eat, what
to order and how to make reservations are
a dime a dozen. And frankly, haven’t we all
seen enough photos of friends’ meals on social
media?
None of the following foodie apps do any
of that. Instead, what they offer is real info on
foods, recipes and tips from experts that you can
try in your own home. So log on and check out
these apps – and if you like them, download
them to your cellphone or streaming device.
Cooking Channel GO: Download this app
and watch your favorite Cooking Channel
shows live and streaming, so series such as
Andrew Zimmern’s “Bizarre Foods,” Bobby
Flay’s “Brunch at Bobby’s,” Alton Brown’s
“Good Eats” and “Yum & Yummer” with Eddie
Jackson are only a few clicks away. It’s free with
your cable subscription, though the content
does contain ads.
The Homicidal Homemaker: Hosted by
Kaci Hansen, the self-proclaimed “the Martha
Stewart of the Macabre,” this free app offers
up recipes, cocktails, DIY tutorials and other
content designed to appeal to fans of the horror
genre. All recipes can also be found on The
Homicidal Homemaker official website. The
series was a recipient of the Silver Bolo Award
on Shudder’s “The Last Drive-In,” so it has Joe
Bob Briggs’ seal of approval.
WineMasters.tv: The serious oenophile will
want to check out this subscription app that
contains master classes and documentaries on all
things grape, with topics ranging from Spanish
riojas and German rieslings to Andalusian
sherries and French Bordeaux covered in depth.
There are also tutorials on how to cook with
wine and opinion videos from wine experts.
The Gourmet Insider: This free app offers
up insider perspectives on how to create, savor
and share fresh, delicious and fun foods and
beverages and gives guidance to everyone
from cooking and entertaining newcomers to
experienced and adventurous home chefs and
mixologists – all with an emphasis on pairing
foods with the right beverages.
Bhavna’s Kitchen: Chef Bhavna is your host
for this series of informative videos in which
she shows how to prepare vegetarian appetizers,
entrees, drinks and desserts from around the
world, all with an Indian flair and designed for
people on the go.
