And frankly, haven’t we all seen enough photos of friends’ meals on social media? None of the following foodie apps do any of that. Instead, what they offer is real info on foods, recipes and tips from experts that you can try in your own home. So log on and check out these apps – and if you like them, download them to your cellphone or streaming device. Cooking Channel GO: Download this app and watch your favorite Cooking Channel shows live and streaming, so series such as Andrew Zimmern’s “Bizarre Foods,” Bobby Flay’s “Brunch at Bobby’s,” Alton Brown’s “Good Eats” and “Yum & Yummer” with Eddie Jackson are only a few clicks away. It’s free with your cable subscription, though the content does contain ads. The Homicidal Homemaker: Hosted by Kaci Hansen, the self-proclaimed “the Martha Stewart of the Macabre,” this free app offers up recipes, cocktails, DIY tutorials and other content designed to appeal to fans of the horror genre. All recipes can also be found on The Homicidal Homemaker official website. The series was a recipient of the Silver Bolo Award on Shudder’s “The Last Drive-In,” so it has Joe Bob Briggs’ seal of approval. WineMasters.tv: The serious oenophile will want to check out this subscription app that contains master classes and documentaries on all things grape, with topics ranging from Spanish riojas and German rieslings to Andalusian sherries and French Bordeaux covered in depth. There are also tutorials on how to cook with wine and opinion videos from wine experts. The Gourmet Insider: This free app offers up insider perspectives on how to create, savor and share fresh, delicious and fun foods and beverages and gives guidance to everyone from cooking and entertaining newcomers to experienced and adventurous home chefs and mixologists – all with an emphasis on pairing foods with the right beverages. Bhavna’s Kitchen: Chef Bhavna is your host for this series of informative videos in which she shows how to prepare vegetarian appetizers, entrees, drinks and desserts from around the world, all with an Indian flair and designed for people on the go. Andrew Zimmern
