Deschutes county has 81 stu
dents at OSU.
All of Oregon's 36 counties
are represented. Benton county
is the leader with 1853 students,
followed by Multnomah, 1498;
Marion, 698; Linn, 528; Lane,
458; and Clackamas, 386.
A breakdown of the Deschutes
county total shows 47 from
Bend, Redmond 26, Sisters 5,
and Terrebonne 3.
INJURED FATALLY
GRANTS PASS (UPI) -Carl
Dodge, 65, Grants Pass, was
fatally injured in an accident at
the Southern Oregon Plywood
Co. here Monday.
Dodge, a retired city road de
partment employe, died at a
hospital after some logs rolled
off a storage pile and crushed
him.

The engagement of Miss Eliz
abeth Louise McBride and Ru
ben J. Menashe was announced
December 7 in Portland. The
occasion was a family dinner
party given by the bride's par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack P. Mc
Bride, formerly of Bend and
now of Madras. It was their
31st wedding anniversary.
Menashe. a building contract
or in the Portland area, is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack R.
Menashe of Portland.
Miss McBride is a graduate
of Bend High School and Ore
gon State University, and is
now employed as a therapeutic
dietician at the University of
Oregon Medical School Hos
pital. After graduation from
college, she completed a 12
month dietetic internship at St.
Mail's Hospital and the Mayo
Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
The bride-elect was a mem
ber of the Bend Water Pageant
court in 1953. She is a member
of Kappa Kappa Gamma soror
ity. Menashe was graduated In
1955 from Willamette Univer
sity, where he was a pre-law
major and student body presi
dent his senior year. He belong
ed to Omicron Delta Kappa
honorary. Before going into bus
iness, he served as an officer
in the Air Force.
The wedding is planned for
early March.

workshop due

REDMOND Four-H Junior
Leaders of Deschutes County
will meet for a workshop on
Saturday, December 14, at 10
a.m. in the conference room of
the Redmond extension office.
As the program will run until
2:30 p.m. those in attendance
are to bring a sack lunch.
The workshop is being plan
ned for current junior leaders,
for 4-H club members interest
ed in the junior leader project,
and adult leaders. Included in
the program will be a discus
sion of the role and require
ments of the junior leader proj
ect; a film entitled "From Ten
to Twelve;" and discussion on
how to train younger club mem
bers wit'.i demonstrations, judg
ing, holding office, record keep
ing and recreation.
The program has been plan

to organize

REDMOND A 4-H square
dancing club will organize on
Thursday, December 12 at 7:30
p.m. at the Pleasant Ridge
Hall.
The club will take In mem
bers primarily from the area of
Redmond and Tumalo. Bend
4-H square dancers have been
organized about a month.
Any interested youngster of
4-H age, nine years through 21
years, may attend. The square
dance project will be carried
out in a manner similar to oth
er 4-H projects, according to
County 4-H Agent Lynne Hoff
man. In order to make definite
plans for the club, parents of
club members are encouraged
to attend this first meeting.
DEATH REPORTED
SPOKANE (UPI) -Dr. Frank
F. Warren, 64, president of
Whitwoith College here since
1940, died Tuesday at his home.
He had been ill with cancer
several months and was unable
to go to his office most of the
time after undergoing explora
tory surgery Sept. 16.

Workers reject
union proposal
THE DALLES (UPI) Har
vey Aluminum Co. production
and maintenance employes have
rejected union representation for
the third time since the com
pany began operating here In
1958.
The vote was 276 to 137 In
rejecting an affiliation with the
Aluminum Workers International
Union AFL-CIO. Employes voted
on the issue Monday and Tues
day. Out of 417 eligible voters,
413 cast ballots.
The election was conducted
by the National Labor Relations
Board with representatives from
Harvey and the Aluminum
Workers Council of The Dalles
looking on.

ests had seven days to appeal
the election with the Board's
Portland office.
