The Bulletin, Thursday, September 19, 1963 Zone ordinance readings given at meeting of City Commission By Ger.ld Drafxau Bulletin Staff Writer Two zone ordinance readings and two decisions on requests for property purchases comprised of ficial business during last night's Bend City Commission meeting. Given second reading was an amendment to an ordinance changing from single to multiple family dwelling zone a tract lying between Burnside ard Alden ave nues, and E. Fifth and Sixth streets. Also read for the second time was an amendment that per mits inclusion of drive-in restaur ants in a C-2 (commercial cater ing to tourists) zone. Concerning requests for pur chase of city-owned property, the board put a price on one lot and elected to retain the other. Priced at $750 is a lot lying between Sisc more Street and a canal, north of Roosevelt. Another lot, between Lytle and E. Second streets and Quimby and Revere avenues, is In an Industrial zone and was considered of potential value by commissioners. In other business, the board heard a letter stating reasons why West Coast Airline schedules have been sporadic in recent months. Rupert Parks, West Coast vice president, explained his company has been forced to give priority to maintenance of aircraft in or der to sustain maximum safety Standards. Hemingway, who served for 13 years on the State Board of Medi cal Examiners has resigned be cause of personal obligations and conflicting duties that would make it impossible for him to carry out his board work. Governor Mark 0. Hatfield, re gretfully accepting the resignation of the Bend physician, has named Dr. Carl R. Kostol of Baker as his successor on the seven-member board. Dr. George H. Lage, Portland, is president of the state board, authorized under Oregon law. Each member is named for a five year term. Dr. Hemingway's present term would have expired on Feb. 28, 1964. An office at Madras was put into operation earlier. Farmers wanting workers, and persons wanting jobs in the har vest, are to make their requests to the office in their zone as far ahead as possible, to facilitate planning. Farmers having hous ing available are also asked to indicate capacity of the facilities. The zone plan has been worked out to avoid duplication of orders for workers, eliminate unneces sary dispatching and wasted wan dering manpower, and save farm ers and others unnecessary long distance phone calls in their area, according to Clark A.
