Mrs. J. Reed Howard and daughters, Shannon, Lucinda and Melinda, of Mesa, Ariz., have been visiting in Bend the past three weeks with Mrs. Howard s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Moore, 1132 Newport Avenue. The visitors returned heme Wednes day. A marriage license was issued Tuesday at the county clerk's of fice to Glenn Edward Severns, an Oakridge logger, and Jean Ann Rice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Rice, Redmond. Assumed business name for La Pine Enco Service, Inc., was filed yesterday at the courthouse by Leroy C. Moore, Warren J. Poteet and Ethelyn R. Poteet, all of La Pine. First place winners in dupli cate bridge play, Wednesday night at the Elks Temple, were Arthur E. Hill and Dr. David Spenee, north - south, and Jerry Todd and Carl Rexroad, cast west. Runncrs-up, north south, were: Mrs. Jack Jeffers and Mrs. Chester Slimkosky, second; Mr. and Mrs. Jack McBride, third; Mrs. J. K. Boekius and Mrs. Jess Tetherow, fourth. East-west: Mrs. Don Fahey and Rex Barber, second; Mrs. Rex Barber and Mrs. Ethel Smith, third: Mr. and Mrs. Del Fickes, fourth. Mrs. Hugh McNair and Mrs. Al Kimble were Jaycee Auxiliary hostesses for coffee. The Mitchell system was played. Three Bend residents have fil ed an assumed business name at the courthouse for MH&M In vestment Co., a property manage ment and investment firm. They are Dick Maudlin, 1036 Wall Street; Hugh McNair, 1251 E. Eighth Street, and Gary W. Her mann, 916 E. Tenth Street. A marriage license was Issued recently at the courthouse to Charles K. Patterson, Portland, and Judith Marie Hanson, daugh ter of Mrs. Oscar Hanson, Bend, and the late Mr. Hanson. Emera Club members. Order of Eastern Star, will hold a rum mage sale Friday and Saturday at the former location of Superior Cafe, across from the Trailways bus depot on Bond Street. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Batten court. Route 1, are the parents of a son, born Wednesday at bt. Charles Memorial Hospital. The baby weighed 7 pounds, one ounce. A name has not yet been selected for the boy. Assumed business name for C & R Builders, contractors and builders, has been filed at the Deschutes County Courthouse by E Z Bilt Homes, Inc., 534 E. Wa ter Street, Albany. The instru ment was signed by Calvin Tig ner, president of the corpora tion. Alcoholics Anonymous will meet tonight at 8:30 in the district courtroom of the Deschutes Coun ty courthouse. A Bend couple, Michael William Busehe, Route 2, and Mercedes Matilda Brown, daughter of Mrs. Victoria Brown, 544 E. Marshall Avenue, obtained a marriage li cense recently at the courthouse. Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Cartmill, 7U2 E. Eighth Street, were to re turn this evening from a trip to Portland. They left yesterday morning. Delia H. Miller, 1139 Baltimore Avenue, has filed an assumed bus iness name at the courthouse for Miller's Cleaners. A Hermiston couple, Charles R. Anson, a salesman, and Arline Fraser, a widow, obtained a mar irage license recently at the coun ty clerk's office. They were mar ried by the Rev. James A. Thomp son, at First Methodist Church. Spahn Ranch is the assumed business name filed at the court house by Cody Spahn, Bend-Burns Highway. Hood River Super Sixty Club members recently paid a return visit to members of the Bend Golden Age Club, with a potluck dinner served and a program pre sented. Dancing followed. There were 25 old timers in the group that visited from Hood River. En route to Tempe, Ariz., to enroll for graduate work at Ari zona State University, are Suzi LeBlanc, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray LeBlanc, 1447 Quincy Avenue, and Nancy J. Prior to his promotion, Kline was resident salesman. Tin an nouncement was made in the presence of 125 dealers and din ner guests in Bend. Kline, 26, is married and has two sons. A resident of Oregon since 1954, he attended Linfield College in McMinnville. He also served four years as a First Lieu tenant with the United States Air Force as a military pilot. Prior to taking the Bend posi tion, Kline completed two years with Rex Mobile Homes, sales de partment, in McMinnville. BIG BALLOON BURSTS PALESTINE, Tex. (UPP -Massachusetts Institute of Tech nology scientists attempted today to determine what caused a huge balloon carrying instruments to study cosmic rays to burst, at 107,000 feet. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil C. Moore, 1132 Newport Avenue. Both girls, 1959 Bend High School graduates, received graduate as sistantships in the Residence Hall Program. They left Monday. Miss LeBlanc received her B.A. degree this spring at the University of Oregon, where she was affiliated with Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Miss Moore received her B.A. degree in English in June at ASU, where she is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. The girls started to school together at Kenwood School, and have shared many activities, from Blue Bird and Camp Fire days through high school. When they were seniors at Bend High, they were co-editors of the school paper. Public lands group winds up all-day meet ; Fifteen members of the public lands committee of the Associa tion of Oregon Counties held an all-day meeting Wednesday at the Deschutes County Courthouse. Judge Lloyd Rea, Baker, is chair man. The committee expects to hold two more meetings to prepare recommendations for the Associa- tion meeting November 20-22 in Portland, Judge Rea said. I Among subjects discussed were Forest Service timber appraisal methods, and the proposal to re turn 10 cents per acre to the coun ties, in addition to the 25 per cent of revenues. There was a general discussion of federal agency road problems involving the Forest Service I and the Bureau of Land Manage ment. The migratory bird wetlands controversy was the subject of a progress report, with a discussion of bills now before Congress on the subject. Represented in the attendance ; were Vale, Prineville, Lakeview, I Pendleton, Newport, Grants Pass and Salem. Bend was chosen for the meeting because of its cen tral location. The Deschutes Coun ty Court does not have a member on the committee. Former Madras mayor dies Special to The Bulletin MADRAS Maurice Broad bent, 50, former mayor of Ma dras, died Wednesday in Madras. Cancer was the cause of death. Funeral services will be held Saturday in Madias. Mr. Broadbent, a native of Utah, moved to Madras 15 years ago, where he operated an auto mobile agency. Born May 4, 1913, in rrovo, ne receivea nis eany education mere. He was tne son ; of Joseph and Retta Broadbent. Survivors include the widow j and three children: Patricia and Michael, at home, and Mrs. Dave Deeling (Ann). There is one grandchild. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Sterling M. Ercanbrack, Provo, and another, address unavailalbe, and four brothers: Dr. J. F.
