f The Bulletin, Monday, July 1, 1963 He proposes fhat July 9th be called 'Deliverance Day' By Dick West UPI Stiff Writer WASHINGTON cL'PI) - Some clock watcher at the U.S. Cham ber of Commerce did a little fig uring the other day and came up with a timely calculation. He ascertained that precisely at 7:12 p.m. on July 9 the 1953 calendar year will be 52 per cent over. Putting it another way. only 48 per cent of the year will be left. By a stunning coincidence, 52 per cent also happens to be the tax rate on corporation income. Therefore. Edwin P. Neilan, president of tho chamber, has proposed that July 9 be designat d as "Deliverance Day." At that time, statistically at least, "the federal government moves out of the top taxpaying corxjratioiis and turns them I back to the owners for the rest of the year," the chamber noted. Urges Celebration J Neilan recommended that "De ' liverance Day" be suitably eole- brated by the nation's business i men. but he neglected to suggest j ways that this might be done. j This being the outdoor season, I I should think that a cook-out I would be appropriate. Regardless of what mode of celebration is chosen, it seems to me that "Deliverance Day," if it is to become a tradition, calls for an exchange of gifts among those emancipated. In this connection, I happen to have at hand the latest catalog published by a company that manufactures a line of toys fur executives. Some of them would make ideal gifts for the occasion. For example, almost any liber ated tycoon would appreciate re ceiving an "executive decision maker" to help him form snap judgments. By United Press International Eight persons were killed in New Jersey bus accident in the worst of a series of weekend traffic accidents. Four persons died in each of three different accidents. Six per sons lost their lives in two others. In the New Jersey accident, a bus and two cars collided on rain swept Route 3 at Rutherford early Saturday. The bus was en route from the Port Authority terminal in New York City to Paterson. N.J. Its driver, Wilbur Parker, 30. had been driving for the bus lines only two days. Sunday morning on Routo 15 at Wharton, N.J., two cars collided, killing four persons. One car car ried seven persons and four of them were killed. Four young people were killed late Saturday night on an inter- i state highway near Indianapolis. Ind., when their speeding com pact car slammed against a bridge rail and ended up in al most unrecognizable shape. ! A pickup truck crashed into the rear of a large truck-trailer east of Baker, Calif., on "notori- ious Baker Grade" Saturday and killed four persons. ! Three members of one family died in a three-car crash in Ari zona. Saturday when their car apparently crossed the center line, collided head-on with a second car which then struck a third auto. A drag race between two cars on Chicago's Dan Ryan Express way ended in death for three per sons, one an expectant mother. Thjy were Walter Fleming, 24; Cora Williams, 22: and Mi's. Hazel Woods. 22, who was eight months pregnant. Mrs. Woods' husband was one of tile drivers. He was not hurt. 2 hospitalized after accident KLAMATH FALLS (UPP-Two persons were hospitalized here late Saturday with serious injuries following a two-car collision In California 18 miles south of Tule lakc. California officers said a car driven by William Hayes, 56, Portland, and one driven by Ray M. Jones. 38, Empire, Ore., col lided. Jones and Mrs. Janice Hayes, 48, were hospitalized. U.S. personnel now subject to " German courts : FRANKFURT.
