Pool will not open at least until Saturday Bend city workmen were still working on the drai&S at .the mu nicipal swim pool late - last eve ning, and Vince Genna, city rec reation director, said that the pool will not be open at least until Sat urday. Once the drains are In order, the tank must be filled. A depart ment spokesman explained today that it takes from one and a half to two days to fill the pool, and got the water temperature at the right level. In the meantime, Bend's sum mer swim team sign-up is in pro gress. Hopefuls may pick up forms at the pool, fill them out and return them. Repeat of hosf school due tonight The Bend Chamber of Com merce will repeat its tourist host school tonight at 7:30 in the Alien School auditorium. Last night's session, acclaimed as highly suc cessful, was attended by some 45 persons representing 28 firms. . The highlight of the program was a slide story depicting me geologic and scenic areas in the Deschutes National Forest. The presentation was made by Ed Parker, recreation specialist on the headquarters staff of the Des chutes National Forest, and Walt er Meyer, assistant. Persons attending were given samples of brochures and folders about Uie local area that arc available at the Chamber office, and placards welcoming tourists, to be exlubited in their places of business. Bend's high school band, under the direction of Don Goodwin, al so will appear In the parade. They will march ahead of the float. ' Albert J. Wood dies at age 66 Albert J. Wood, 66, Bend resi dent since 1922, died this morn ing at St. Charles Memorial Hos pital. He lived with his wife Viola at 365 State Street. Mr. Wood was born on March 5, 1896, in Washburn, Wis. In Bend he was employed by Uie city as a maintenance man for 14V4 years before his retirement in 1961. He was a World War I veteran and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Bend Council 1872, for the past 41 years. Surviving, in addition to h i s widow, is one sister, Mrs. Mary Hemmingson, Duluth, Minn. Services will be held Saturday, with 10 a.m. requiem mass, in St. Francis Catholic Church. The Rev. Albin Cullen wiU officiate and burial will follow in Pilot Butte Cemetery. Recitation of the rosary will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Tabor's Bend Funeral Home. Suspect sought in cafe theft A Deschutes County Court war rant has been issued for the arrest of John Duncan, 56, a suspect in the larceny of some $410 and a check from a till at Uie B C Cafe. Duncan has been employed as a dishwasher and cleanup man at the cafe for approximately five months. He reportedly lived at a trailer court here. Cafe proprietor Bernlce Coombs told police she discovered Uie money missing when she opened up Wednesday morning. She said Duncan was in the cafe Tuesday night after the other help had left. About $300 of the money was in cash and $110 in six pay envel opes. Amount of Uie check was unknown. The larceny warrant has been filed for Uie amount of $2,500 bail.
