Benson had his first case In his new official capacity this morning, vhen John Malonoy, a logger, was tried before Municipal Judge Ellis on a charge of drunken ness. Maloney entered a plea ' of guilty, and was fined $25,- with an accompanying sentence of 10 days In the 'city Jail. ' The i defendant declared that he had not taken a, drink for two years, and said that last night he absorbed the better part of a quart of whis key, only as a last attempt to get rid of an attack of la grippe. The attempt failed, he admitted, but the potency of the liquor was such that he lost his way home and fell Into the basement of the Erlckson board ing house, mistaking It for his home at the Minnesota.
