I Grand Exalted Huler, Brotherhood Protoctlvo Order of Drothcrhood Protective Order of Elks, New Orleans, La. , Honored Drothor: It has come to my attention that (From Saturday's Dally Dullotln.) An almost unanimous satisfaction over tho selection of tho 'first coun ty court for Deschutes county was ovlnccd by Dcnd residents today, following the announcement of tho appointment of W. D. Dames, Judge, and L. E. Smith and A. L. Mackin tosh, commissioners, which was published exclusively In yesterday's Dulldtlu. A canvass of represent ative men of tho city showed that the choice, as far as tho opinion of tho residents of Dcnd Is concorncd, Is a wise one. Especially was the uows of tho nppolutmont of Mr. Dames acclaim ed as one of tho best that could havo been made. Tho cholco of Mr. Mas- Kintosn, it was agreed, would re sult well in tho affairs of tho now county, and tho only criticism heard was from a few who doubted tho ad visability of nomlng Mr. Smith, of Hcdmoiid, for a commlsslouershlp. It was admitted, however, by nil personally acquainted with him, that as far as porsonal ability was that ns fur as actual ability was concerned, ho should fill his now po sition well. "It would bo hard to pick throo better men," was tho way n loading llna'iiclor ot tho city characterised tho appointments. " All aro men of affairs, and tho fact that they wero not especially active In seeking tho positions, in Itself speaks well for them. Thcro is not a politician on tho entire court, nnd I think wo can look for a fair and economical administration of county affairs." One woman was found who took nn opposlto vlow of affairs, and who, whtlo not attacking the personality of the members of tbo court, pre dicted that they -would nunio Itcd raond as the temporary county scat. Representatives ot tho legal fra ternity in Dcnd agreed that Judge and commissioners could bo de pended upon for good serviced and characterized tho selection ot a Ilcdmoud man as a .member, as "most Judicious." Merclmnts ap proved tho selection of men who am known to bo possessed of sound buslncHS Judgmont. Somu disap pointment was manifested over tho fact that II, J. Overturf had not been given tho position of Judge, but his strongest advocates hnd no doubts to cant on the ability or Mr, Dames. to catch up with your shopping needs, have yo'u not forgotten some little gift for a friend or relative whom you would not neglect? 11 We still have a wide assortment of articles of jew elry that are most suitable gifts. fl Just drop in and we will be very pleased to sug gest or aid you in picking out an appropriate gift.
