Cokvacus, Oregon While ou a trip'of io clays on a wheel I visit t& 53 towns besides becing the conutry and the crops I find the farmers that are making the most money and doing it the easiest are the ones that raise clover. The successful ones ore seeding the largest part of their ranches to clover and carrying more stock. Some handle cows and sell the cream and milk, and others raise cheep, cattle, and bogs. My idea is that this Willamette taMey is a wonderful bog country. TV'itlr this even climate pigs can come any time of the year and do (veil. With the clover, rape, and kale fields for them to run on they can be fed tery cheaply to what they can In the Eastern states where there are long cold winters To give an idea what people are doing along the clover line: I know (( some farms of 400 acres and most of them are sown to clover. One neighborhood threshed acb 000 pounds and still others expect u have a car load of clover seed i is next fall. I am making it a iJttsiuess to keep tract of the clean lover fields. When I buy it is the Lest that is wanted. Any one that is interested in fine fjrms nnd clean fields qnd good. t,rops, fine improvements, every. thing in good shape, can find those farms in the Holland settlement three miles northeast of Forest tirove. Any one having a disgust for farming would get that knocked out by visiting this settlement, see' Jng their homes so comfortable and everything about the ranch so handy and Beat. Farmer, I want to My that if you had seep what I have you would surely goto raising clover, more hogs, sheep, and cattle which will make more money and build up the land at the time with much less werk. J.et the other fel low do the hard work, hiring bands ad kepiag lots of horses and fcackiaery to plow, bind, and t grout wnceu 10 nam 10 mancti, rttwl burn his straw, and curse his country because bit farm does not )mluce. Ok, if pople only knew ftew Hck tbey ar robbing tkelr IamI by tkk yruk, tktw would sure lydpHMtge. We wtorc stock, 0MH.4IMUUIJW & &4 ClOVWJ Reasonable Terms or Generous Discount for Full Payment.. Central Oregon Development Ccfe The hullers, less plows, binders and hard work, with more profit. I wish to correct a mistake I made some time aiy. I said hogs would not kill artichokes after tbey got started but I had hogs in my artichokes all winter and they com pletely killed' tuem. Do not be afraid to plant plenty of artichokes; you can not get rid of them if you do not pasture too heavy with bogs nnd they will stay for years with out replanting. I also . said ibat artichokes wonld yield 300 btisbels to the acre; they will yield 1000 bushels to the acre 011 extra good land and any one doubting if write to me and I will refer hira to the field and he may see for himself. I want to impress on your minds first, last, and ail of the time, to sow clover, I know it pays anv one that is faint-hearted and has no experience. I would be ghtd to send directions about the sowing and the kinds of soil it needs. Do not think that I have gone back on vetch. I think there is no better cow hay than vetch hay. It really is a forerunner of clover; it helps prepare the land for clover. In my opinion vetch seed will be a little higher in price next year; even, at 8 cents a pound it will pay better than grain in cash besides building upthe land. I,. L. Brooks in Pacific Homestead.
