The formation penetrated i widely extended, ami in the walls of the canyon of the Crooked and Dochute rhcrs near t lie if junction is over Son feet thick, but the loner limit is un known. Vhlle the thickness of the por ous beds in these canyons does not prove that the portion of the deposit beneath Vrincville is equally thick, yet it is at . jeast a suggestion that the present well wight be continued much deeper with hope of obtaining an additional water wpplr. ''Thcgcologicconditionsshowii by the wells at Princville and by the sections exposed in the canyons of Crooked and Deschutes rivers, together with such evidence as is available concerning the topography of the region, all favor the hope that 'artesian water can be liad iti 1'nneville valley. "The presence of a definite artesian: ,'uasin is not suggested by the known v conditions however, but rather by pos slbility that an "artesian slope," or wedgexhaped beds of previous material inclosed in imjwrvious material, may be present. While no prediction worthy of consideration can be tnaile that flowing water will be obtained in the valley if wells are drilled, the conditions arc such as to warrant making a thorough test in that connection at any point on the alluvial bottom lands from Princville to 1'orcst." Thus it is seen that experts thor oughly competent to pass judgment on this question of a water supply are of the opinion that flowing ,jvells may be obtained at various 'places on the. bottom lands from Princville to Forest, with very favorable evidences of the same re sult from deep drilling in the Hay stack country. Mr. Iceland's machine will undoubtedly be kept very busy, and the residents of Western Crook county will watch "with more than usual interest his efforts to obtain an adequate water supply.
