Dr. and Mrs. Anderson and child ren from Corvallis spent the Fourth a t Hillsboro with the Perry Kohl fam ily, who went from hare to put on an outdoor act. B oy McDougall and fam ily .took th eir camp outfit with them to Hillsboro and stayed from Sunday t ill Tuesday after the fireworks. Some celebration. A ll kinds of amusements and a good time for all- Mrs. I. G. McCormick entered a Boat in the parade at the Hillsboro celebration the Fourth which car ried off the second- prise, and It well deserved it. Mrs. McCormick and ’helpers gathered ferns with the roots o n to decorate with bo that they w ere not wilted a bit. Foxgloves w ere also used. The machine was com pletely covered with these so th a t eren the pretty girls who rode tn the float were not visible unless t h e y parted the flowers and peeped ou t. About 200 people helped eelebrate the Fourth at Lad H ill. Mr. and Mrs. John Sovcy o f Portland were out, and Mrs. W ygant and tw o children were here; (M rs. W ygant w ill be remembered aa Mias Gladys Purdy) and Mr. and Mm. Lee H eater from Portland. Friday Mrs. C. C. Lcmcks Invited the neighbor Indies to help her quilt two quilts at the club house. Every one took lunch and Mra. Lcmcks treated them to Ice cream and lee tea in the afternoon. Some could not come for all day on account o f it being hay harvest. The story o f the little pigs who went to market and the little pigs that stayed at home, etc., about cov ers the w ay the neighbors celebrated the Fourth o f July this year. Mr. and Mra. W ilsey and three of the boys enjoyed the Fourth by uriving up the Columbia highway as far as the Cascade locks. They re port a beautiful drive but somewhat crowded on this occasion. I f you heard a loud discordant noise one evening the latter part o f last week, ask Mr. Mays the cause. He took unto him self a w ife last Thursday and some o f his friends were helping him celebrate. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Hubbell and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Harley H all and fam ily and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Last Saturday evening at 8 p. m. a terrible crash was heard by the people o f Rex, when tw o j autos collided and run on the sifip toward the railroad, each car break ing a telephone pole off. which kept both the cara from going over the bank and probably would have fatal. The Ford car, which con tained two men. is said to have hpd boose in it. The big car was ddtn- aged considerable and bad to* he hauled in. There was no one hurt but the driver o f the big car sus tained a slight cut on his head. The big car was headed for Rockaway to ppend the Fourth. They telephoned for their people ’at Rockaway to come and get them. N. L. W iley received a letter from hts son W illard, who Is In Buenos Aires, for a short stay. The letter was w ritten on the 7th of'Tune and arrived here on July Srd. W illard gave a short description, stating that the business district Is near ly all built on the European plan. The streets are narrow and hardly any sidewalk. D uring the busy hours o f the day It la hard to get around. The residential districts are beautiful w ith large houses and lota o f shrubbery. They have same o f the beet parks there he has ever seen. Lots o f autos, but mostly Eu ropean cara. He states they get tw o peeoe and 78 centavos fo r 81.00 In American money, but prices as a rule are higher than in the states. They do hardly any m anufacturing there at all, and they put a heavy tax on everything that te Imported. He expects to go about 1000 miles south to Com odors Ktvidaria, A r gentine.
