LOGGING ACTIVITY ANTICIPATED DR. I. M. BLOMWICK CfflBOPBACTOl Our HATCHETS and IT A Y E S i 8ofne logging actively not hereto fore expected 1« reported on the con. •traction of the railway from Wil- lantina to the heart of the timber belt to the went. It is said that the Spaulding Logging Co. is one of the backers o f this railroad, and with thirty-five sawmills located in var ious parts of the timber country it would indicate that their Interest in the railroad construction is more than a passing one. It is said this company already has' large timber holdings in Clatsop. Tillamook and Yamhill counties and that the re newed activity in logging to the west will begin upon the completion of the road. In fact rumor has it that 1600 men will find employment before the year is out. It is certain that the work of the road construction is be ing pushed along as rapidly as pos sible and this fact would indicate j that some great incentive is the cause.— Sheridan Sun. ^ Finit Bt. , Black 0, New berg, Oregon no/J D R.TH O S. D Physician and Surgeon It seems not only that everybody in this country is going somewhere, but that they all want to travel in Pullman palace _ cars. The day coaches are not popular at thia time. Many roads are actually leaving them off and using only Pullmans in the trains. Nor does the extra fare charged upon certain feat trains keep them from being patronised. "The king of England couldn’t get a berth to the Adirondacka thia week end," bald a railroad man in New York, in commenting upon the lux ury of travel these days. “The Twen tieth Century Limited, which used to ran in one section, now runs three or four. The Lake Shore and the “L Wolverine run three sections. These are extra fare trains, remember— all Pullman cars. The regular trains with day coaches ran half filled This condition is not peculiar to New York and the east. It ia the same out this way. Everybody who travels seems to have money enough to pay for a seat or berth In a pal ace car. Lunch boxes are not carried as they once were, either. AH go to the diners for their meals. No body tries to save a penny; nobody seems to pay any attention to ex penses. Even the tramps who used to be content to ride between the bumpers evidently have the means to pay for a first-class passage. Pover ty is not visible about the railroad Btations; want is not heard of as one travels from place to place. Luxury is the order of the day.
