one of its most delightful meetings
on Thursday last. Mrs. Powell, the
hostess, had decorated the library
appropriately for the occasidb and
also had arranged a valentine con
test which was enjoyed after the

meeting closed with the roll call to

member responded
either with a current event, a quo
tation, a poem, or a joke. The reg
ular program opened with a reading
of extracts from "Out of Many. One,”
from the Woman's Home Companion
for February, by Mrs. Greer.

Cross,” “ The Garden,” and “ Do It,”
by Miss Helen M. Hatch were great
ly enjoyed. A game arranged from

went to Portland Sunday morning,
called there by the death of Mrs.
Kincaid’s nephew. Lieutenant John
Lively. wh6 died Saturday evening,
after a short illness with pneumonia.
The news of his death came as a.
great shock to Mrs. Kincaid, who
had been expecting him for the past
two weeks to visit her at ber nome
in Sprigbnrook.
The body was
taken back to the home of his par
ents in Virginia for burial.
