Mammoth Cave should be made a national park. Now is a good time i to take the necessary action. The j federal government should be able to acquire the property, upon reason able terms. The management of the cave, asserts the Louisville Cour ier-Journal, has l>een such as to sug gest that an adequate hotel will not be built at onto, if at all, but even if it is the intention o f the managers of the estate to replace the. hotel that has been burned, the history o f the cave as a private property is a his tory o f failure to induce the number o f visitors which the importance and interest o f the natural wonder war rant.' As a national park, improved by good roads, provided with a good hotel, Mammoth Cave would be seen by ten times as many persons as see it under present conditions. The area surrounding Mammoth Cave is well forested, picturesque, well supplied with streams and in every way suitable as a national park. Kentuckians should urge their rep resentatives in congress to interest themselves in securing a sufficient appropriation to acquire the cate and enough ground around it to make a reserve representative o f an exceptionally fine section scenically considered and now almost as primi tive as it was when Mammoth Cave was discovered.
