Graeper and son, of Portland, visited with Dundee and Red Hills friends at the school picnic on Friday. Miss Cornelia J . Spencer came from Portland Saturday after noon to attend the mnsic dem onstration given by Mr. Powell and the high school graduation exercises. On Saturday o f this week the pupils o f Mrs. Clara L. Warren will give tw o musicales at Com munity Hall, the primary pupils in the afternoon and the advanc ed pupils in the evening.' ‘ v ' '» _ V ■ Dr. and Mrs. A. P. Every dollar contributed mesas a sac rifice on the part of the donor but it is safe to say that there ia not one person in our midst but is happy to make the sacrifice and who wishes it could have been more. T o many it seems like a personal gift to our boys from Dundee who have been will ing to answer the call tor men to uphold the standard ot democra cy and freedom for all humanity, and, if need comes, the same Dun dee spirit will be manifest in oth er w ays in the future. Once again Dundee has had its annual flag day, last Friday, the closing day of the school. On account of the extra garden space planted this year and the need of its cultivation many who wanted to attend were not pres ent, bat even so there was a large attendance. The forenoon was given over to the usual sports, the prize winners in the various contests being: First and second grade girls' race Isabella Bauman; first and second grade boys’ race Ralph Win ter burn; third and fourth grade girls’ race Louise Wilson; balancing ball contest Mrs. Leland; nkkel flip ping contest Mrs. Bernhard Groth; men’s race Wm. Wilson; cracker eating contest Paul Nei- derberger; third and fourth grade boys’ race Ted Winterbura; fifth and sixth grade boys’ race Har old Winterbura; seventh and eighth grade boys’ race Alfonse Neiderberger; threading a needle . contest, high school boys, Oscar Jensen; popcorn eating contest Ted Winterbura; peanut race Selma Woisky. Then followed the pienk dinner, and such a din ner, every one satisfying the usu al picnic appetite and still enough food for many more. In the af ternoon the Dundee band favor ed the assembly with several se lections, the primary children gave a little fairyland play god. Prof. Powell gave out the music diplomas. Then County Super intendent Duncan gave the eighth grade certificates to a class of eleven and made one o f the best addresses ever heard in Dundee. Prof. Anderson, who is to be the principal o f our school next year, made a few remarks and Miss Nellie P. McNeill, our principal who is leaving us, said a few words o f appreciation for the co operation she has had during the five yearp she has been with ns. A tennis tournament com pleted the program for the day, Our community Hall was beau tifully decorated on Saturday by the high school children with blue and white, which were the class colors, roses, and the class m otto, “ Character the only true test o f education.” A large au dknee enjoyed every feature o f the graduation program. The scholarly, practical address giv en by Supt. Churchill went home to each heart. Of coarse as usu al our girls were the sweetest ever, the boys fine and manly and the chorus led by Prof. Pow ell Oregon’s best. The six grad uates, who at the close made a beautiful picture as they received the flowers that almost smoth ered them, were Selma Holzmey- er, Mabel Swink, Gladys Ed wards, Prances Bddens, Oscar Jensen and Arthur Livengood. Gladys Edwards as first honor pupil received a scholarship, her choke df any one o f five o f our Oregon institutions o f learning, including Reed College. Frances Bddens won second honors and Selma Holsmeyer received the scholarship to Willamette Uni versity.
