On Tuesday a number o f
families of the Red Hills w h o felt
able to devote a day to pleasure
just before the rush o f w ork in
pears, hops, apples and prunes,
assembled in the Allan grove for
an old fashioned basket picnic.
T o say that the long table, large
enough for all t o be seated at
once, groaned under its w eight
o f goodies, is statin g it mildly.
Never w as a more varied bill o f
fare displayed in these hills and
never a happier crow d to enjoy
it. Gallons o f ice cream were
made on the spot and no notice
taken o f repeaters. About four
o ’clock watermelon, more ice
cream and cake were served and
all present were able to enjoy the
second spread, except one wee
girlie whose capacity had not
quite matched her appetite. The
groaning o f the table w as noth
ing compared w ith those o f m ost
o! the grow n ups the next morn
ing when, in their efforts to get
out o f bed, tbeir muscles ga ve
reminders o f the exciting games
of duck-on-the-rock, hop scotch,
etc. participated in by nearly all
present. One little boy remarked,
*T had the best tim e I ever had
a t a picnic” and his enthusiastic
remark m ight be echoed by
dozens o f others.
