Washington Splons Give Up On

Olympia, Wash.—The war between
Governor Lister and the control of the
Washington legislature over road leg
islation came to a peaceful termina­
tion. when the legislature, unable to
override the governor’s veto of the
$1,500,000 road levy bill, surrendered,
and put through a bill for a $1,250,000
levy, as suggested and fought for by
the governor.
The passage of the measure in both
houses marks a signal victory for the
chief executive and brings to an end
a fight which had threatened for more
than a week to result in a deadlock
with no road legislation.
The settlement of the road levy
fight came as a surprise. The house
and senate control held out until the
last minute in hope of getting a suffi­
cient number of votes to pass the
$1,500,000 bill over the governor’s head
but when they counted votes and
round that they would fall 11 short
they "threw up their hands” and .the
governor won a fight which he has
been engaged in for mere that three
weeks.
