Following ia a copy o f A rticle 2 o f the new Constitution and By-laws. Sec. 1. V The purposes for which this association is formed are to foster, encourage and develope the mercantile, manufacturing, agricultural, horticultural and home interests and resources of the city o f Newberg and o f Yam hill County; to collect, preserve and circulate useful information concerning tbe city and county; to forward the improvement of streets, roads, avenues and pub lic parks; to improve and extend our transportation facilities; to aid and encourage the erection o f needed public buildings; to en courage th e establishment of new manufactories, and the ad vancement o f l o c a l improve ments; to increase the wealth, industries, influence, trade and population o f the said city and county; to promote the general welfare of the inhabitants there of, and to draw closer together the citizens o f Newberg and vi cinity in their business and social relations. You can readily see 'that the Commercial Club is organized for a purpose, and for a good pur pose, and if properly managed should be the pulse o f this city of ours; not only o f the city but of all 'the surrounding country. But how are we to make it the pulse o f the city unless every property owner and progressive citizen of Newberg and vicinity becomes members o f the same, thereby giving to it their finan cial and moral support. Let us all get together and do things from now on. At the present time we do not receive an average o f tw o inquiries a week, from the outside for liter ature or other information, and why? Simply because we have not the necessary funds with which to advertise. If we could carry a half page in the Sunset, or some other good magazine we would soon be receiving in quiries at the rate of from one to twenty-five or more a day. Let us get busy. I take this opportunity o f in forming the members of the club, that next Friday evening, April 19, is the next regular meeting o f the dnb, at which time the mat ter o f holding a Fourth o f July celebration in Newberg, this year will be taken up. A celebration that will rival, and even surpass any that has ever been held, not only here but in any other place of equal size in the Union. R. H. C. Bennett, Secretary. McMinnville.
