Paso Robles has long been known t o Californians, for here it was that the Indians for centuries came to treat their sick, even m aking dangerous journeys for hundreds o f miles, fighting their w ay through hostile tribes to reach these waters. Then came Padre Juniperro Serra w ith his Franciscan monks, and his reports to the Church o f Rom e and to the throne o f Spain are today extant, giving marvelous narratives of seeming wonders performed at Paso Robles (The Pass o f the Oaks.) The tow n o f Paso Robles is located on uplands o f great beauty, ft lies 20 miles from the sea, is 720 feet above sea level and is sheltered round about by a perfect wall o f mountain ranges so that sea air is tempered w ith hot land winds, filtered and cooled and given to Paso Robles in a perfect state. The waters at the springs com e forth both hot and cold. Here is mineral mud a l s o a n d other forms o f w ater treatment recognized by science for curative purposes. -rr:; Rheumatism, * gout, stomach and kidney diseases seem to be the m ost prevalent at Paso Robles, although the waters are unfailing for female complaints and all forms o f nervous dis- Paso Robles is not a resort like those o f Europe, where only the rich attend. You may find scores o f poor people living in tents or at lodg ing houses, w ho come here and are cured with little cost except that necessary to keep them under shelter and to furnish meals. No one is denied use o f its waters except those suffering with tuberculosis or unclean disease. The rich have their exclusive and luxurious hotel and pri vate baths, while the medium purse may select com fortable and desirable quarters in hotel, or private boarding house. The hens can’t make good shells unless you furnish plenty o f lime. A feed o f finely-chopped onions, once a week, is a tonic that helps to keep broilers lively and healthy. Ice-cold water can not help chilling the bens. It mast be warmed up som ehow, and that takes vitality. Save the lien’s strength o f body by warming the water on the kitchen stove. XKKKÊOtOKKtoàl P lum bing! ca n .B 'v. ~ Here is a new plan for killing mites on poultry roosts: Take tw o pieces to make a roost seven- eighths inch thick and tw o inches wide; bevel the edges a little, and nail together, not too close, and set up on edge. The mites will all congregate in the seam between the tw o pieces. Pour kerosene in the groove formed by the bevel on top, and you have them dead. Many w ho keep poultry over look the importance o f grit. Lack o f grit means poor digestion and few eggs. A load o f gravel near the chickens' home would improve the health and increase the egg yield on many a farm. I know it is claimed that the grit o f commerce is the best, but the gravsl is good enough grinding If you have never materi al , tried it you will be surprised how fast it will disappear when placed in a box where the hens ean help themselves.
