The Imperial Open* W ith Banquet

It was a representative gather
ing of the citizens ot Newberg
and community who sa t down
to the banquet to celebrate the
formal opening of the new Im
perial hotel bn last Saturday
night, when ten turkeys had been
slaughtered and more than a
hundred covers had been laid for
the occasion. The Jo n g tables
were beautifully decorated ^ ith
Oregon grape and carnations
and under the electric lights
made a bright and cheery ap
pearance, .

“ Newberg from an Educational
Standpoint” citing the advan
tages offered in our efficient pub
lic school, the high school and in
Pacific College for educating the
young, and spoke of the loyal
-spirit shown by the business men
and citizens generally in support
ing these institutions.

duced as the first mayor of New
berg, read a short paper on
•“ Reminiscences vs. Present” in
whkh he dwelt more particular
ly on the conditions-of Newberg
during the early formative peri
od which was particularly in
teresting to those who were ac
quainted with-the occurrences.
