In commenting upon the suc cessful celebration held a t Hills boro, the Independent makes this pertinent o b s e r v a t i o n : “ When the city bought th at park they did this city more gooc th an an y other one thing th a t h as happened in m any a month.” There’s food tor thought here for Newberg. A s long a s the E d w ard s grove is a t the disposa o f the tow n, the need o f the pub lic park is s o t recognized. B u t should the grove be sold and turned to private use, w h at then? B y w a y o f reminder, Newberg is the home o f the Spaulding L o g gin g Com pany, one o f the big concerns o f its kind in Oregon; o f the Pacific Face Brick Com pany, which furnishes the m ater ia l for Portland’s best brick blocks; o f the Oregon Handle M anufacturing Company, which •applies the Northwest with handles tor tools of all kinds; of tw o flouring mills, common brick factory, tile^mill, ice manufac- tony, iron w orks; o f a big new cannery within a tew weeks, while within a radius of five miles there are fifty truit evap orators. And still vie are not satisfied. There are a few more things w e w an t and w e’re going to get them. Ju s t w atch ns. Even such a distressing acci dent as th a t noted below by the Oregonian is made to show up the agricultural ’ possibilities o f this great Northwest of ours in a w a y which needs no comment. “ The harvest season is subject to accidents o f a type all its own.
