were very largely uttended. The other
churches in town Htljourned their regu
lar services in deference to the occasion,
and as a result the floor and galleries
were closely filled. Tho baccalaureate
sermon was delivered by Pres. Newlin.
It wae in line with his usual addresses,
able and thoughtful, based upon the
text, "N o other foundation is laid than
that which is laid, Christ Jesus." The
displayed ami encouraged them to con
tinue in the college work. He dwelt on
the povfer of the distinctive college as-
sociationshipa and their beneficial ef
fects upon young lives He emphasized
the value of college friendships and of
the influence of the consecrated profes
sor. The habit formed in college of
proper reading is a far reaching one. In
short the effect and value of the training
received in college is inestimable.
