HUBM KIPTION HATES: P er year ........................... $: oo (No subscriptions taken for a shorter term.) A great storm has raged all over the East and a number of people who are passing through to Silver Lake to prove up on timber claims have expressed themselves as be ing delighted with the mild winter which they find in Eastern Oregon. S A T U R D A Y , JAN. 2, 1904. * The reputation of the Oregonian is now secure and has a ratable valuation in the East. Senator lloar refused to shako hands with Scott on account of a coarse article which the Oregonian printed against Hoar’s late colleague, '*Ior- rell. Last spring an Oregonian reporter got a humorous article out of an interview with a poor wretch under the death sentence. An editor who doctors his news columns in order to do a little po litical bushwhacking is liable to snubs, and the coarse articles that repeatedly appear in the Oregon- iau would bankrupt a paper in any other part of the country. Any country town feudist can secure the Oregonian to larubast the oppo sition. We don’t know on what terms. M ILL. Timber Lend. Act June 3, 1M78. Timber l and, A ft June 8 , 1878.
