JAIL BREAKER RE-ARRESTED.
Anti-Saloon beague Organised,
At a meeting of temperance people
cal l e d fornt tha- Christian Church Mon-
day evening there was started an’orga-'
nized effort to grapple with the saloon
question in Ashland. Henry C. Galey
was elected chairman and D. H. Hawk
ins secretary of the meeting. The ques
tion, “what opportunities of a practical
nature are now open to the people of
Ashland looking to the suppression of
the saloons,” was discussed. A spirit of
enthusiasm for the cause was mani
fested by all present and the necessary
committees were appointed to draft a
constitution and by-laws for an “Anti
Saloon League.” Over 30 signified a
willingness to become members and on
Tuesday evening’s meeting it was
swelled to 50.
The special issue to be met will quite
likely be the city election in December
and the concentrating of the anti-saloon
forces upon the new method of voting
on the license question, which allows
only res;dent male real estate taxpayers
to sign saloop license petitions and
remonstrances and will make the saloon
petitions all come up at one time for
iioense applications.
