Klamath County is for Hermann. Lankville Star.] Klamath county is expected to send a solid delegation to the state convention for Binger Hermann. Never before did Klamath county stand in such need of a good, true and indefatigable worker in congress, becaoae never before did Klam ath county here each weighty interests depending upon legislative action in congress. Hermann’s bill to make Crater lake a national park needs a pressure, impulse and force which no raw, green repre sentative can bring to it. Hermann’s forthcoming bill to throw open the Klamath Reservation to settle ment will need the moral force of a con trolling influence which no inexperi enced, un practiced and untried repre sentative ever did or ever will (»ossess, and Mr. Hermann, who has long been a recognised power in congress, may be depended upon to work indefatigablv for the passage of the bill. We dont care a straw for the more partisan aspect of this case, and we have no quarrel with the Miller men. We freely concede Mr. Miller’s ability and all that; but we wish to say right here that we are in need of a congressman whom we know to be true and powerful, and who baafnore influence in congress today than a phalanx of Millers a mile square! So at the primaries, if you value Klamath’s interests, vote for Hermann. Never before has our county had the chance of a band of range steers, and now that tv» splendid chances to get out of the woods are almost at our fin gers ends, let us not lightly throw them away. Our representatives in congress, Dolph, Mitchell and Hermann, have acquired a national reputation as able public servants; they have accomplished great results for Oregon, and now that their attention is being turned to Klam ath, let us let veil enough alone. This is no time to go poking around in search ofagalled, green and greedy candidate for congress. ASHLAND. JACKSON COUNTY, OREGON, THURSDAY. MARCH 3, 1892. CRATER LAKE Hermann to make it a National Park and Reservation with Government Support. W ashington , D. C., Feb. 13, 1892. P. J. Connoliv, Linkville, Or. My Dear Sir:— I enclose you my bill for the establishment of a national park at Crater lake in Klamath county. I haw been collecting all data within reach for the purpose and have now on hand the original order from President Cleveland, which I secured from him—s o ttiw a apart and reserving from public disposal a large area adjacent to the Crater lake, also the report of the geological surveys and soundings of the lake. Major Powell, the eminent geologist and director of the U. 8. geologic surveys, writes me as follows: “I fully approve of your detign to have the region embracing Crater lake net apart at a national retervation. Crater lake it one of the remarkable foaturet of our phytical ge ography and hat no counterpart in the United Slatet.” In my judgment the success of this project will prove of incaloalable benefit to Klamath and Jackson counties, as well as to Lake county. The government would enter upon works of improvement, the making of roadways, the beautifying of the immediate Jake surroundings, which are already a scene of magic beau ty in spring, summer and fall. The rail road companies would all publish the scenes in their guide hooks and would al low special tourist rates. Thousands and thousands of people wonld visit this por tion of our state, and many persons with capital would locate and be tempted to utilize the unrivaled water power which everywhere exists in your counties, and nowhere so prominently as at Linkville. Members ot congress listen in wonder to the narrative we have to make public— and now so well authenticated by the sci entific departments of our government— as to Crater lake, With kind regards, very truly yours, B inoek H ermann .
