The Wall Street (New York) Journal's Boston special says: We are able to announce that the American Bell Tele phone company has lias so far forwarded experiments in the telephone field that it now has in its possession a perfect tel ephone by which whispers can be trans mitted 500 miles distinctly. Telephone connection between Chicago and the East will be only a matter of line con struction; in fact, a telephone from Boston to San Francisco does not seem an impossibility in the near future. Still, difficulties of construction are to be overcome for a cable telephone. But Puck’s girdle around the world in 40 minutes may yet be beaten by 39 min utes and 59 seconds. Another bloody chapter has been ad ded to the criminal history of south western K a nsa s. The county seat war between Woodedalo and Hugoton has ■gain resulted in bloodshed. A plot to kill Judge Botkin, opponent of one of the murdered leaders of the feud, was put into execution. It failed and the bullets intended for Judge Botkin ended the life of Sheriff Dunn. Judge Botkin was informed that a mob composed of members of the Citizens’ Alliance of Woods dale and Springfield would en deavor to assassinate hjm if he attempted to open court at 8pringfield. Troops have been sent to Springfield to protect the Judge. A posse pursued the slayers of Sheriff Dunn and a running fight took place. Four of the pursued were killed. Dunn’s son has sworn to kill every man connected with the mob that killed his father.
