With this the time is not ripe in Oregon for such a sweeping change, and it is wonderful change for the not likely that the people will e n better, prohibition has had dorse the measure. Prohibition Doomed! W HY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOH BOOTH REPUBUCAN It is am using to read the a rg u ments against " f r e a k ” legislation. In one breath they raise a warning cry against an y th in g that will dis- cou age the establishment of m a n u facturing industries iu the state and urge th at every encouragement should be given to th at sort ot d e velopment, especially by lifting the burden of tax atio n , so far as possi ble. In the n e x t brea h they sol emnly warn th e people against the proposed $1500 ta x exemption be cause it would lift the burden to some extent from evidences ot thrift and enterprise aud place it on the gifts of n atu re, like land, used or unused and the most solemn note of their warning is th at the measure is a "sin gle t a x " scheme —and the single tax would lift all the butden of taxation from m a n u f a u u ti n g e n terprises. T a lk about logic! Candidate For United States S e n a to r Are yon better off now than you were under the Republican adm inistration? Are you satisfied? If you believe in the principles of the Republican Party, if you are convinced th a t these principles are the best for the country, then prove it by voting for your standard bearer, Robert A. Booth, Republican candidate for the U nited States Senate. You know th a t under Republican presidents the people of the United States have good tim es. You know th a t under Democratic Hofer presidents you have Democratic tim es. nothing whatever to do. The real reason is found in the fact that today there is a vastly greater amount of beer consumed. And beer is not conducive to drunken ness. Prohibition is a failure and has had but one effect wherever tried: to put a ban upon the open and above-board drinking of beer and other light bev erages and to drive men to s e c r e t, im m oderate drinking of the strongest stimulants. This is notably true of Maine, a prohibition state. There is ten times as much drunkenness per capita as there is in France.
