The Loggers open th eir loop season May 29 a t D rain and in th e m ean tim e have a ten tativ e date sched uled w ith N orth Bend May 22. T he w eekend’s h u rlin g duties w ill be divided betw een W ard Rockey and Jo e Michasek. Rockey w ill be borrow ed from th e Coos B ay-N orth Bend-Bandon L um ber jack-M illers for th e S atu rd ay en counter w hile M ichasek is a L og g er v eteran who will s ta rt on th e mound S unday afternoon. O th er h u rlers who w ill jo in the Loggers d u rin g the season, but who will not be available this weekend w ill be Skeets Ellis, now perform - ing for Y ale; Micky Cohan, a t W il- lam ette; and A llen P rew ett, now hurling for Bandon high school. Rooney is th e only new com er and he spent last sum m er in th e top | n ig h t A laska loop, KENTUCKY Second annual C laver Ranch Roundup will be held Sunday, Ju n e ! 6th, a t the Diamond C. Ranch n ea r Coquille, it w as announced to day by Lloyd Claver. The ranch is located three m iles north of Coquille on Shelley Road. Top cowboys from all over the sta te will com pete in th e various events, including bronc riding, calf roping, team roping, steer stop ping and wild cow milking. Claver said this will be an old- fashioned jackpot ranch roundup, w ith no fancy stadium trim m ings. Logs will be d ragged to th e corral fences for spectators to sit on I while enjoying th e rodeo. Wild horses will be saddled rig h t out in the middle of the arena, and then turned loose w ith a cowboy doing his best to stay in th e saddle. The steers, calves and wild cows w ill be rounded up on the Claver Ranch, and th e w lid horses w ill be | furnished by the McCall Ranch on i Catching Creek. In th e 220 relay Coquille’s Red Devils placed fourth w ith John Demain, Jack Jacobsen, Duane Sherwood and G ene Molthu c a rry ing th e baton for the Red Devils. Individual honors w ere gained by Demain who took third in the 100 yard dash and the broad jum p w hile Jacobsen placed fifth in th e 440. Both lads will en ter th eir respective events at Springfield.
