New Owners Purchase Lena’s Cafe This Week Logging Equipment Governor Lifts Firm To Come Here'Trucking PUC Ban Surveying crew s from the state highw ay departm ent were busy this week on T ay lor street running sights and placing m arkers for the pro posed three - lane highw ay into tow n whieh w ill become a four-lane highw ay, prob ably, near Bieggers or the Ford garage. No definite inform ation w ill be released by the state highway de partment, but several local men have reportedly seen the proposed plan fo r th e highway from Cedar Point Into Coquille and say It w ill follow the old highway into town w ith one-way tra ffic going south on Second street and east on Second to H all and out high way 42. • • Mr. and Mrs. Archie Hatcher had as guests for a week their grandson and his bride, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Brown, of Dayton, Wash., who were on a honeymoon trip . Over the week-end the Hatch ers took th e ir guests to their cabin at Lakeside. The Browns were much impressed w ith southwestern Oregon, which they were visiting fo r the firs t time. M r. Brown is w ith the Braden-Bell Farm Ma chinery company at Dayton. Mr. and Mrs. David Biegger. .Mr, and Mrs. E. H. Sommers, Mrs Elsie Forrest and Mrs. Emma Rooke were in Reedsport on Sun day to attend a housewarming for M r. and Mrs. E. C. Forresf,,. Farmers Can Get Training At Myrtle Point High Thirteen veterans are now en- ; rolled and taking this tra in in g 1 under the instruction of Ted Kirsch local Veteran agricultural instruc tor, reports G.' B. Goddard, high school principal. « In order to eligible fo r tra in ing veterans must be. operating a farm or working on a farm. Classes are held each Monday- evening in. the agricultural building of the M yrtle Point union high school. Instruction consists of work in farm machinery repair including welding, sheet metal, blasksmibh- ing an carpentry as well as in struction .in dairying, pastures, soils and bookkeeping. Veterans must sigh up nôl la te r than October 1 in order to begin training November 1, which is one of the three dates during the year that new veterans may enter train ing. [a in ly 4-H Leader Gets Induction Call Ten third graders from the new elementary Lincoln school w ill be taken to Washington grammar school to relieve the overcrowded condition at that school, the board voted Monday night. This w ill cause a second-third grade split and a th ird -fo u rth grade split, Supt. Ray Hunsaker said. The only other alternative was to hire a th ird teacher, and this would have been nearly im posible due to the district’s f i nancial condition. There are 110 students In the th ird grades in Coquille. , A W urlitzer piano was pur chased from Hal Roberts of John ny’s Music store for $577.87. Three other bids were submitted. Turned down was a request to use the school auditorium for dancing classes. Supt. Hunsaker was instructed to get the legal forms reedy for asking fo r bids fo r the Valley View school.
