Oregon's State board of forestry
at its meeting held at the capitol
last week proposed a memorial
forest in honor of the late Nels
Rogers, state forester. The details
of the proposal w ill be worked out
and presented to the board at the
next meeting.
The board increased the rehabil­
itation budget for the 1950-51-
fiscal year by $168,000, bringing
it up to $473,000. Reports were
made by State Forester George
Spaur on the current five season
and on the spruce bi: Jworm spray­
ing project which is the largest
ever made TnTthe history of forest
production.
Expediting slash burning and
the necessity of cutting snags dur­
ing logging operations as a means
of reducing fires throughout the
state was urged by the board.

increase: The 1949 legislature in­
creased minimum benefits to $21 a
week from the former $17 pay­
ments. The month of February of
this year was the record month in
the history of the commission w ith
$5,000,000 paid to jobless during
the period when logging, construc­
tion and other outdoor work was
brought down to a minimum by
unaccustomed winter weather.
