Honor Roll Issued For Past Term Carol Crinklaw and Mary Anne Roberts, Coquille high school sen iors, received the two coveted service club awards of scholar- • ships amounting to $100 at the school's award assembly Friday, E. R. James, principal, said today. Miss Crinklaw received the Lions Club award while Miss Rob erts received the award made an nually by the Coquille Soroptim- ists. Both were the winners of essay contests. Forrest Couch won the other top essay award amounting Jo $25 from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Receiving the second prize of $10 was Alfred Gauntlett and the third award of five dollars was presented to Elaine Trull. „ < Four essay awards of $10 each were presented to Miss Trull, Al fred Gauntlett, Martha Banta, and Mary Ann Roberts by the Lions elub. The high school citizenship award went this year to Ed Peter son while John Watzling was judged outstanding in activities’ Jim Kay, athletics, and Colleen Chowning, music. Don Cochran was presented the student body president's medal w hile Martha Banta received the Hi-Times editor’s award and Joe Berg the Laurel editor's key. Donna Mast and Lulubelle Sei del receved the high school band honor awards while second honors w ent to Colleen Brinkley, Sherril Hatcher, Kay Hudson, Joan Peart, and Carol Anne Creager. Dian Buell, girls’ league presi dent, presented the student body with a rack of recordings which the league had purchased through the sale of candy and other pro jects through the school year. Track letter were presented by Spike Leslie, coach, and season in tramural awards were presentd by Fred C. Adams, director. The junior class captured the annual plaque. - L A U R E L S IS S U E D . Laurels were issued Friday. Coquille high school's honor / o i l for the second semester was re leased this week by E. R. James, ■principal. Receiving no grade below a oae were Alfred Gauntlett, Forrest Couch, Bernadine Gosnell, Myr tle Serflihg, Elaine Trull, seniors; Eldon Finley and Marcia Mauney, freshmen. Seniors receiving no grade be low a two were Max Clausen, Don Molthu, Ed Peterson, Jack Sisk, John Watzling, Jim Jenkins, Martha Banta, Ila Brown, Bar bara Dixon, Elsie Johnson, Doris Strader, and Lorna Willard. Junior receiving no grade be low a two were Jim Brewster, Wanda Brewer, Dian Buell, Gay Cedarquist, Mae» Dean Greene, Leota Johnson, Donna Mast, San dra McCurdy, Joan Peart, Mari lyn Purkey, Alma Thommen, Col leen Walsh. Sophomores on the honor roll were Wanda Hills, Delores Preuss- ler, Woodena Raddatz, Jack Pur key. Freshmen were represented by Johnny Clayton, Rodney Hal ter, Frank Schneider, Bobby Swinney, Sherril Hatcher, Doris Finley, Geraldine Smith and Gloria Smith. • * ,.c - Cindermen Given School Awards Thirteen Coquille high school cindermen were awarded letters Friday at thfe school’s annual award assembly, E. R. James, principal, announced today. The presentation w’as made by Coach Spike Leslie. Receiving letters were Buzz Oerding, Bill Melton, Jde Berg, Gene Schrag, Ted Parrish, Jim Newton, Don Cochran, and Jack Sisk, all seniors. Underclassmen receiving the award were Bob Pingleton, Keith Parry, Rod Noah, Ed Howe and Len Scolari. • • JOURNAL EDITOR ALSO VISITS MRS. DANA’S AUNT Through an inadvertence, the mention of the visit of Editor and Joe Mrs. Marshall Dana to the home of,M rs. Dana’s aunt, Mrs. Annie Lett of Myrtle Point, was omitted .rom last w eek’s news items in The Sentinel. Editor Dana had de livered commencement addresses in both Coquille and Myrtle Point to high school graduating classes. Mrs. Dana was born at Norway, and it was a homecoming of kind for her. “t? Pioneers To Meet At Langlois Gym The regular monthly meeting of the Coos-Curry Pioneer and Historial association will be at the Langlois gymnasium Saturday, June 10th. A luncheon w ill be served at one p. m. by the Willows Creek Woman’s club. a • Coos People Back From Alaskan Trip Back from the Portland Journal trip h x Alaska are Mr. and Mrs. Orville Wood, Mr. and Mrs. The odore Clinton and Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Schroeder. They report a highly enjoyable trip, and said the entire Journal- sponsored vacatioh was fine. They commented on the efficient way in which a ll plans had been made by the Journal, and said that even in 'places where there were no cars, care had been taken to see that transportation was available. • • A favorite summer dessert is to fill a baked crumb shell with ice cream and top with well-drained canned fruit cocktail.
