Ernie Woodring was operated on fo r appendicitis at the Mast hospital Saturday. Ernie is pro gressing nicely and w ill be home .shortly Miss Florence Rushing was a Powers visitor Friday. Florence attended high school here last year and w ill graduate from the Coos Bay high school this year. Mrs. Jane Burch and Mrs. Ra cbel Rolfe were able to come home from the hospital this week. Mrs. Gladys M ayfield has ac cepted a position as second cook at the Russell Train logging camp, w ith Mrs. Agnes Peace. M r. and Mrs. Harrison Rouw and M r. and Mrs. Buck Breuer, all old time Powerites but now of Portland were visiting their re spective relatives over the week- Powers Briefs • • • Thurc Davidson, Martha Schy- berg, Ole Moody and wife. Klutch Ross and w ife were fishing Sun day at Coos Bay. Several floun der and other fish were taken. Bob Richards is in the Mast hospital at M yrtle Point and is not getting along very well. Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Johnson and fam ily of Eugene were week end guests at the Paul Barton home. The Johnston’s are break ing a new Nash Ambassador, and plan a trip to the east during the summer. Some parties have been unlock ing the cable car, which is used to cross the rive r in North Powers, and have been using it to joy ride across -the river. This cable car is the property of the U. S. Geo logical Survey and there is a max imum fine of $500.00, in addition to a ja il sentence, for those caught using this car. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ross left on Friday fo r Alpine, fo r a visit w ith Mr. and Mrs. Don Burch. They returned on Monday. Loy Reed has his Unit Power crane back in Powers. He has been working up on Eden ridge fo r Coos Bay lumber. Howard Stratton is the crane operator. Mrs. Elwin Frye and Mrs. James Adamack were Tuesday shoppers in Roseburg. Mrs. W illiam Perry left fo r Portland Tuesday to visit her hus band who is in Portland in the Good Samaritan hospital. Mr. Ferry was injured the 29th of Oc tober on the C. B. L . Co. train at COdar Point. A daughter was born to M r. and Mrs. Pat Ragghianti at Keizer hospital in North Bend, A p ril 18th. Forest Service Elwin Frye and Curtis Town send have been doing camp ground work up the South Fork at Daphncu Grove Forest camp and others. This Work w ill be completed this week. Following this telephone maintenance w ill be started. Ranger Stickney and Ranger Paul Talich of Agness have been accompanying Gene Slocum over to Dora and Sitkum for field work on the national forest lands in that vicinity. National Forest lands in Townships 28, 29, and 30 were transferred to the jurisdiction of the Powers R. S. staff last year.
