k C oq u ille V a lle y d e n tin e ! COQUILLE, OKSGON A t Sitkum Laird's Purchase Durrell Ranch Mr. and Mr*. Oscar Durrell sold their ranch recently to Ivan and Ken neth Laird. This is the first ranch one approaches when entering the valley after the drive through the canyon. It is one of the most beautiful and desirable ranches in the valley. Mr. and Mr*. Durrell plan to move to Co quille. Mr. and Mrs. John K irk spent Mother’s Day with Mr. K irk ’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert K irk of Empire. Those attending church in adjacent city churches on Mother’s Day were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shelton and fam il y Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wilson and family and Mr. and Mrs. Alan Rhay and family. On Monday of last week Mrs. Ivan C. Laird underwent a tonsilectomy in Portland. She plans to return home on Wednesday. Mrs. Mildred Benham who resides in Roseburg, is visiting in the valley this week. Young people in the valley who at tended the Junior-Senior Prom at Myrtle Point Saturday night were Lila Mae Laird, Colleen Shepherd, Pern Nlckaaon, M url Laird and Bur ton Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shelton, Robert, Lorna and Phyllis, Mrs. Hazel Bolin and daughter, Esther, saw “Gone With The Wind” in Coquille Saturday even- n Bemard Sapp took a carload of kiddies to Myrtle Point Sunday after noon to see “Pun and Fancy Free.” Those who went along were Douglas. Stephen, Colette and Sharon Sapp and Mildred and Florence Strode. Following church on Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wilson and family and Mrs. Wilson’s mother, Mrs. Annie Lett, accompanied M r and Mrs. Orlin Lett to their home in Broadbent where they spent a delightful day together. To whit; On the very day the good Governor Dewey honors us with his presence, the sun shines more brightly than it ha* in many a day, and the promise of continuing sunshine appears to be more encouraging. Everyone; farmers, loggers, fishermen — even newspapermen w ill benefit by this great change. The point we’re trying to make is that there to a similarity be tween today’s beautiful sunshine and the presidential election. I f ever there was a time when the World, and in particular we mean our o'wn World of America, needed that bright sunshine, that time to now. What better than that Governor Dewey may be just the man to bring it to us— even a* it seems he to bringing it to Coquille today.
