(MR •"'iïiB I In the opening game of the 1946 Cooa County Junior Legion baseball season at the Coquille diamond, Coos Bay took heads-up advantage of 12 Coquille errors and rallied behind the superb pitching of big Larry O’Dell to wallop the local Juniors 9 to 1. The Cooa Bay boys took an early lead and were never threatened dur ing the nine-innning affair, as O’Dell baffled the Coquille club, striking out 12 and allowing only two futile hits. Pitching for Coquille, Harry Slack hurled a creditable game, fanning seven Bay boys and allowing seven hits in seven innings. Slack was re lieved by Richard Parrish in the eighth inning who allowed two hits and fanned one in the remaining two innings of play. Earned runs for Coos Bay totalled only two as the Bay boys cashed in on the 12 Coquille fumbles to tally the great bulk of their scores. Co quille’s lone marker came in the ninth inning as Jim Bellmore walked to get in position for the score, being advanc ed to third on Buzz Oerding’s clean base-hit and coming home on a perfect squeeze play to start the Coquille scoring and end the tallies for the day. It waS an earned run. The Rev. Robert L. Greene, vicar of St. James’ Episcopal Church, will leave Monday for a month’s vacation. During his absence the locaf church will be in charge of the Rev. J. Thomas Lewis, of Emmanuel Episco pal Church, Coos Bay. The Rev. Mr. Lewis will hold services the last two Sundays in June and the first two Sundays in July, at 9:30 o’clock.
