A delayed Marine Corps item from
Saipan in the Marianas Islands, tells
of the part a Coquille boy took in the
U. S. capture of that Jap stronghold.
Lynn Perrott is the son of Ernie
Perrott and husband of Mrs. Georgi-
anna Perrott, both of this city. The
item reads:
Tanks are playing an important
' role in the fighting for Saipan and
one two-man lank crew in particu
lar is making things plenty hot for
.he Japs.
1 Sergeant Roy M. Godfrey, 22, of
Fresno, Calif., and the driver, Ser-'
geant Lynn F. Perrott, 25, of Co
quille, can take a lot of credit for the
Marine advance across the moun
tainous backbone of the island, where |
the Japs are so well dug in that it >
would be impossible to get at them
in any other, way.
Sergeants Perrott and Godfrey have
wiped out large numbers of the ene
my entrenched in seemingly inacces
sible hillside positions.
