for the City of Coquille, it shall have
authority to provide by Ordinance
that a Manager be appointed. Such
manager shall be appointed by the
Mayor with the approval of the
Council for an indefinite term, but
shall be removable at the pleasure of
tha^ Council by a vote of two-third*
of all members thereof, and shall re­
ceive such compensation as maay be
provided by Ordinance from time to
time. Upon any vacancy occurring
in the office of manager subsequent
to the first appointment hereunder,
the Council shall, at its next meeting
thereafter, either provide by Ordin­
ance that the office of manager be
discontinued or adopt a resolution of
its intention to appoint a Manager,

within sixty days thereafter. Until

perty and supplies belonging to the
city in departments over which he
shall have control and supervision
and shall be personally liable to the
city for the same; he shall purchase
by requisition all supplies and mater­
ials needed by the city in such de­
partments. Such requisition shall be
in writing and a duplicate copy kept
on file by the manager. In cases of
emergency where the estimated cost
exceeds »200, such requisition shall
have the endorsement of the Mayor.
If no emergency exists a requisition
for supplies the estimated cost of
which is above »100 shall first be ap­
proved by the Council. The manager
shall submit to the council, at its first
meeting in each month, a report of
the business done during the previous
month. If it shall be deemed ex*
pedient, the manager may, by Or-
dinance, be required to perform, in
addition to the duties herein pro-
vided, the duties of any other appoin­
tive office or offices.

Beginning with the Sept. 8 meet­
ing, all members who are present at
every meeting throughout the year
will receive an honor.
The next meeting, Sept. 21, will be
an informal reception for the town’s
business and professional women.
The past presidents and program com­
mittee with Mrs. Clara Bosserman,
chairman, will be in charge.
The Big Surprise committee for
Oct. 5 consists of Clara Stauff, Annie
Robinson, Edith Walton and Bess
Maury.

Following adjournment, Mrs. Irene
Hartwell read a very timely article
from the American Rifleman. It was
written by the editor W. F. Shadell,

ginal skit: “Family Scene in a War
