The Mamie Rebecca Lodge mem bers went io Bandoh Tuesday eve ning to visit the Ocean Rebecca Lodge. After the regular meeting, the Coquille lodge presented the en- .ei taiiupent for the evening. A trio, compc’sed of Mrs. Roy Boober, Mrs. Geo. Johnson and Mrs. J. P. Beyers, sang a group of cowboy songs. Mrs. Beyers also played a cello number. A melodrama was presented by Mes- dames Boober, Johnson, Harry Ross, Hester Holverstott, Ula Leach, W. E. Bowerman, Birdie Skeels, E. M. Kay, Fred Schaer and E. L. Benham. Other Coquille members and friends who made the trip were Mrs Ora Maury, Mrs. Myrtle Noah, Miss Ida Oerding, Miss Edyth Greenwall, Messrs. Fred Schaer, W. E. Boaaer- man, J. P. Beyers and E. M. Kay. The Bandon lodge served delicious refreshments for their Coquille guests. v The J. G. W. club held its annual picnic at Brewster valley last Sun day. It being a beautiful day, the lunch was served in the grove to a large group of members and friends. A number of them arrived early for an outdoor breakfast. Enjoying the affair were: Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Fuhr man and Rolph, Mrs. Violet Lorenz, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Folsom and George, Mr. and Mrs. Muri Pettit, Mrs. Edna Hartson, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tut tle, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rosa, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Lamb, Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Sanford, Mrs. A. J. Sherwood, Mr and Mrs. A. N. Gould, J. E. Norton and Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Hazard. Mrs. A. B. Collier entertained at her home Wednesday afternoon at a dessert luncheon and bridge party. Invited were Mesdames Mary Mc Keown, E. M Kay, Roy E. Boober, U. E. McClary, T. B. Currie, Frank Thrift, Hal Pierce, J. L. Aasen, H. S. Norton and F. C. McNally. At con tract the high score and traveling prizes were won by Mrs. E. M? Kay. Miss Beryl Unsoeld invited friends to her home last Friday, evening to a garden party and outdoor supper. Despite the fact that weather condi tions drove them indoors, the guests reported a very jolly evening. After a seven o’clock dinner the girls spent a most enjoyable evening. Each girl came prepared to put on some stunt which proved very amusing. Parti cipating in the evening fun were Anne Baiton, Audrey Aasen, Betty Glaisyer„ Elizabeth Pierce, Carol Young, Margaret Paulson, ■ Eleanor Ritola, lsobel Unsoeld, Virginia Hart- son, Barbara Unsoeld and Beryl Un soeld. Pioneer Missionary Society The pioneer Missionary Society met with Mrs. C. E. McCurdy on Cunningham road, Thursday, July 16. The meeting was opened by sing ing “In the Service of the King," and “Oh Master Let Me Walk with You," followed by prayer by Rev. W. R. Wilder. The devotions were given by Mr. Wilder and a topic, “Two by Two,” was read by Mrs. Gormley. Mrs. Beyers played a solo, _ "Adora tion” and “My Old Kentucky Home” which were very much enjoyed. Refreshments were served by Mrs. C. E. McCurdy, Mrs. Lena McCurdy, Mrs. Lloyd Oddy and Mrs. Dora Oerding to the following: Mesdames Purvancar Leslie, Skeels, Beyers, Gormley, Daniels, Ellis, Morrison, Minard, Way, Ireland, Brown, Rich mond. Taylor, Davis, Finley, Pink ston, Hamilton, Tillmann and the hostesses. James Ds . id Bell, a resident of Co quille for tiie past IS years, passed sway in the nigi.t Wednesday but at what time Mrs. Bell does not know. .he had been sleeping upstairs in .heir home on North Ha'l street, and ■vhen she came downstairs yesterday noming she found him lying on the R oot in the bath room, life extinct. Mr. Bell had been in poor health for the past three years and had to give up all active occupation. He was a paper hanger and painter byj rade, and had also served the public is custodian of one of the city’s school buildings here for a few years. Mr. Bell was bom in Brooklyn, N. Y, July 14, IMS, and was two days past 71 years of age. He left home it an early date and was in San Francisco at the time of the fire. He was married there to Miss Ora Sey mour, Oct. SI, IMS. No children were bom to this union and as far as is known his widow is his only sur vivor. Funeral services are to be held to morrow (Saturday) at 10 p. m. at the Gano Funeral Home, and will be in charge of the Eagles lodge of which be was a member. Interment will be in the new Odd Fellows cem etery. Mr. Bell was one of those men who make friends of all their acquain tances. He had a kindly nature, his word was as good as his bond, and his passing is mourned by all who knew him.
