The games on S nd ay and Monday in which Coquille’. Loggers fought tooth and nail with -he House of David were big enough merwk to fill all stomachs in S >uthwe tern Ore gon. (For genuine excitement and old- time competition the two-dry stand was cbuck-a-block. As if they were rivals of tradi tional history, the whi.ken and the Loggers fought like two yvung wild cats. The umps had many uorry times, the poor things, and with all thia continual starting of upheavals, the players got in the beet baseball licks see'n in our old ball orchard for some time. Sunday’s encounter was the slickest exhibition seen in years, while the last contest wax not far behind. Thrill* and excitement pre vailed. * . The fact that a supposedly weak local team rose to such a playing pitch was the highlight. The pitch ing of Bob Wiltshire and Jack An drew* of th* Logger« and of Nusser of the House of David was far above bush league standard, while Speis man, the other long-haired hill artist, also gave a creditable showing. Each lasted the route without effort, and the total number of hits garnered from their deliveries in two game* was a mere twenty-eix. The eights hits off Speisman on Sunday was the high mark against an individual barter. To Coquille’s outfield, composed of Art Pulford, (Menn Murray, Wally Marsden and Bob Thompson, is due no end of praise. The spirited play of Marion (Fischer on Sunday was, perhaps, the beet individual perform ance, rivaled by the hurlera, Andrews, Wiltshire and 'Nusser, and Glenn Murray. But to be fair both clubs were on their tom, and with an im partial feeling we write that the Loggers were the best, at least on Sunday and Monday. The Coquille team play on Sunday was something that you read about, but seldom see. On this day, the Logger* clicked beautifully as a unit of nine men—catcher, pitcher, in fields and outfielder*. Bad Man Atwell, the deep-lunged House of David shortstop, made a publicity hog of himaelf by awaiting a pitch over th* left field fence in the eighth inning on Monday. The run was the deciding acore. The House of David team that played Coquille is the original or ganisation and the one that hails from Benton IHatbor, Michigan, where the Israelite settlement holds forth. The team that played the Portland Beavers is a spur of the originals and was organised by a dismissed booking agent of the Israelites and on its roster are no long-haired players. It is a fast team, however, one com posed entirely of professional play-
