Woman’s Club Meeting GOULD FURNITURE CO The Coquille Woman’s Club mqt at the home of Mrs. L. H. Hazard Tues day afternoon. Many ways of beauti fying „ ,. the city , were discussed and , plans were perfected for carrying out some of them. A series of "City Beautiful Tees" have been begun for that purpose. During the business session, the club voted to send >20 to the State Scholarship Loan Fund. Mrs. Pearl Ellingson, city librarian, gave a very interesting talk on the library and its management and im provement during the past year. Donald Farr gave two very pleasinig saxophone solos, accompanied by his sister, Edith, at the piano. Those who enjoyed the afternoon were Mesdames L. P. Maury, Goo. Davis, L. H. Hazard, John Aasen, J. A. Lamb, Ida K. Owen, C. F. Fuhr man, A. J. Sherwood, Ed. McKeown, J. E. Paulson, Geo. Chaney, T. B. Currie, Julius Ruble, C. C. Farr, Geo. Leach, Pearl EMingsen, R. B. E. Nor ton,. as president; J. E. Walstrom, vice president; Elmore Drane, secretary; and T. P. Hanly, treasurer. The only business transacted, aside from the usual routine, was the an-' thorizing of the assistant secretary, John Neilson, to secure W. H. Wann’s services in opening a set of books ac cording to the budget system of book keeping. A port’s expenditures and disburse ments are so varied that it ia some what awkward to follow the budget plan but it was deemed best to have a system approved by the county audi tor. S. Davit, J. P. Johnson, P. J. Jacobsen, B. A. Boberts and D. F. Thompson. As its executive of- ficers the board chose Mr. Davis as president, M t . Johnson as vice preai- dent, and R. H. Mast as secretary- treasurer, The loan committee is composed of Messrs. Davis, Johnson and Jacob < >sen. At present the asso cjation ci 41 loans outstanding, to- tailing >135,000, with two more pend ing. The greatest surprise to the officials in the matter of loans was the turn ing down recently of an application by the official examiner—an outside man—for a loan on a Brewster valley bottom farm. The farm was excellent security for the loan but the associa tion had to pass it up. Entertains Friendship Club Mrs. S. V. Smith was hostess to this Community Friendship Club at her home last Friday afternoon. During the business meeting Mrs. Smith was elected president, Mrs. Chapin re elected vice president; Mrs. Dean, sec retary; and Mrs. Zwicker treasurer. Mrs. Collins drew the lucky number in the prize drawing with Mrs. Lee Stonecypher furnishing it. Mrs. Clin ton and Mrs. Bohrer will arrange the program at the next meeting.
