Ernest Anderson, aged 27 year*,
ranched o f Haynes Inlet, is at Mercy
hospital in a serious condition as a
result o f being shot Wednesday a f-
tenoon by Constable P. W . Goodman
who, with two fedeal officers, was
making a search Ipr a still.
The shooting took place near the
residence o f Per* Peterson, who Uvea
not fa r aw ay from the Anderson
place and near the Paterson Landing.
The constable states that he had
told Anderson he was' under arrest
and that Anderson ran. The officer
says he fired feveral tim es over An
derson’s head before the bullet he
fired st him took affect.
Anderson at the hospital Thursday
morning told b is story in which he
claims the facts to be entirely d if
feren t ' He says he did not ate Good
man and that h* turned to talk to
Peterson behind him when ha was
shot and did not know anything more
until he regained consciousness. He
claims be did not run.
The shooting took plaee near a
small house in which were found two
stUls in operation, together with
mash and liquor. Anderson and Pare
Peterson approached the place when
Constable Goodman and on* o f the
federal officers were there.
The wounded man was brought by
Dr. Phil J. Kaiser to M ercy hospital
at North Bend and attended by him
and Dr. Russell R eiser. The latter
stated that Andaman’s condition was,
o f course, serious but that ha regard
ed his chances were one o f dying to
nine o f living.
Anderson fires shot hi Hw back.
Fred Sample is the new bowling
champion o f Coquille. Tuesday ev
ening he rolled a perfect score until
the last ball, when lie knocked over
nine o f Hie ten pins, giving him a
mark o f 299. Three hundred is a
score that but few o f the thousands
o f bowler* in the country have ever
attained. Fred’s record is one that
will probably stand untouched in Co-
quill*.
