14 l November tonight’s 22 - 28, 2020 THURSDAY EVENING best The 94th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 9 a.m. on NBC The 94th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Not even a lethal global pandem- ic can stop one of the most be- loved American holiday traditions on television, but expect some changes in this year’s broadcast of this perennial holiday favor- ite. Rest assured, members of the “Today” team are back as hosts, but the event itself will be a TV-only affair, not a live public event with cheering throngs and multiple marching bands. Still on offer: colorful balloons (pulled by trucks, not human handlers), colorful costumes, floats and, of course, Santa Claus. 12 p.m. on NBC; 6 p.m. on NBCSN The National Dog Show Actor John O’Hurley returns with expert analyst and American Kennel Club judge David Frei to co-host this year’s event in Oaks, Pa., produced following both state and local pandemic guide- lines. NBC Sports correspondent Mary Carillo also will be on hand to offer her insights. This year’s show features three new breeds appearing for the first time: the Barbet (Sporting Group), a water dog from France; the Dogo Ar- gentino (Working Group), a smart hunting dog from South America; and the Belgian Laekenois (Herding Group), originally used in police work. 8 p.m. on BET Movie: Miss Juneteenth Writer-director Channing Godfrey Peoples made a striking feature film debut with this 2020 drama, which earned widespread ac- claim for its vibrant, multidimen- sional characters. Nicole Beharie (“Sleepy Hollow”) heads the cast as Texas single mother Tur- quoise Jones, a former winner of the local Miss Juneteenth pag- eant. Since that event offers full college scholarships to the win- ners, she enters her 15-year-old daughter, Kai (Alexis Chikaeze) into this year’s competition, a development Kai receives with no enthusiasm whatsoever.
