Findley, a Republican from Vale who represents House District 60, which includes Baker County, announced Wednesday that he will seek the Republican nomination Findley in the May 2020 primary for state Senate District 30, which also includes Baker County. Howarth, who turns 41 on Saturday, has been hired as Blue Mountain Community College’s new regional director for Baker and Union counties. Temperatures that dipped into the 30s didn’t dissuade hundreds of costumed kids from claim- ing their share of chocolate, caramel and all sorts of other sweet treats Thursday in downtown Baker City. The street closure was extended by a block this year on the north end, and that made for a safer event, said Debbie Poe, president of the Baker City Kiwanis, which organized trick-or-treating for the second straight year. You never know what you’ll fi nd while cleaning out an old couch. For Bryan Barrow, the treasure hidden in his sofa is a photographic negative showing a baby. Barrow’s goal is to return the black-and- white negative to its owner, or at least to a relative who knows the child’s identity. “It’s a curious mystery,” Barrow said. “How old is the negative? Who is this person? Where is this person now?
