M.W Service Plus Courtesy Oregon Growers Building, East F Street T Ont’ let of 10-ineh disc TALKING MACHINE RECORDS — During the month of May. said i Sam A. Kozer. secretary of state, to- 1 day in a statement from his depart, ment, there were 6,561 passenger! care, 696 trucks, 194 motorcycles,! 20 motor vehicle dealers, 941 chauf feurs and 5,360 motor vehicle opera-1 tors licensed from which the fees ag gregated $211,907.59. During the corresponding months In the year] 1923 there were 7,099 passenger! cars, 675 trucks. 297 motorcycles, ' 20 motor vehicle dealers, 1,028 chauffeur, and 5,419 motor vehicle! operators licensed, the total fees therefrom being $226,421.50. These figures show a slight falling oft in the month of May, 1924, from May.! 1923, registrations as well as in the; aggregate fees received. However, the total registration! up to May 31,1 1924, show 26,549 more passenger, cars registered than during the cor- I responding period in the year 1923; also, an excess of 1,627 motor trucks making total motor vehicle registra tions of May 31, 1924. of 28,176 ■«ore than during the same period of the year 1923. The aggregate of the fees from the activities in connec tion with the licensing of motor ve hicles thns far during the year 1924 show receipts of $719,575.53 In ex cess of those during 1923. So tar for 1924 license fees aggregating $4,251,304.53 have been received as against $3,531,729.00 during the same period of 1923. Taking into consideration the fact that the sales of motor vehicles thus far during 1924 have not been as great as during the corresponding I period of 1923, yet, in view of the! activities in motor vehicle registra-! tions during the last half of 1923,' we can safely estimate a total of 190,000 motor car registrations dur ing 1924, from which the license taee should aggregate well onto $4,- 750,000.00. The moneys received from the gas oline tax and the motor vehicle li cense fees are all transferred to the State Highway fund with ths excep tion of such sums as are necessary in the administration of the motor vehicle laws which is not in excess of 4 per cent of the total fees. This I expense Includes the cost of plates. I the maintenance of the traffic force ! appointed by the Secretary or State, the registration of motor vehicle op-1 erators, and all the work incident to| the various provisions of the motori vehicle law. Assuming that the gasoline tax will return during the year $2,750,- 000.00, and the net receipts from | motor vehicle licenses will be Mr I 600.000.00, there will be a total ofj $7,350,000.00 available from such sources for the State Highway Fund, out of which there must first be paid the bonded obligation falling due during the year not in excess of 12,- 200,000.00. Th>9 leaves substanti ally $5,000,000.00 for the general maintenance and upkeep of the high ways and for such further road ex tension and improvements as are contemplated by the State Highway Commission in carrying out the gen eral road program of the state.
