Washington, Nov. 21. Seven mil
lion dollars in government gold is
to be distributed in the north west at
once for salmon. Final prices are
not fixed, but will be left to the ex
perts who will be sent out by the.
federal trade commission. This com
mission will take into consideration
all the factors of cost in each case,
otherwise the small canners would
be put out of business.' Prospects are
that all fishermen taken in the army
and navy will soon be released and
the Industry restored to its pre-war
activity and prosperity.
Pending the investigation as to
final prices the government will ad
vance $7.75 per case for red salmon
and $6 flat per case for pink salmon J
ints order 18 placed by the sub
sistence department of the army but,
Inasmuch as all prices are the same
for allied and for civilian use in the
United States, this means the whole
pack will be taken at these prices.

The many friends of Miss Gladys
Cox, who had charge of tbr music

In knowing that she leaves Portland

in the vocational educational work
started by the government to pre
pare the boya who were injured at
the front, to become independent
and self supporting, regardless of
loss of limbs.
Miss Cox was very, successful In
her work here, so much so that the
Portland school recently employed
her to assist In the supervision of
similar work there. ;
Prior to thig change she had made
application to the government tor a
position in occupational therapuntlcs,
new line of educational work, and
now is happy In securing it, realiz
ing the greater opportunities for the
accomplishment of beneficial results.
Though if is not generally known
by her friends, it is a fact that when
filling out the questionnaire ;. there
were five lines of work specified on
the blank that Miss Cox could teach
"our boys."
In this new line of work she will
have the best wishes of all of her
friends in Grants Pass.
