' "England baa a reserve supply of cereals sufficient for 12 weeks but It Is uncertain whether ve can main tain this until harvest time. It the reserve fails below a several weeks' supply, local famines will result." COUNTY AGENT'S , NOTES j Cultivate Poutoee It la an excellent practice to be gin cultivating your potatoes very soon after planting them. Do not wait for them to come up, but go right onto them with a spike harrow and give t,hem'a good cultivation. Do the same about the time they are coming up. Then as soon aa you can see the rows, cultivate them. Even If you cover some of 'the tops no harm will come from It; It la also a good practice to har row your field corn Just a few days after It comes up. You may tear out a few stalks but not many. If for any reason you think you are tearing it out too badly remove two or three or the middle teeth of the harrow. Chicken Wre A new and effectual remedy has been given1 out by the department for the control of chicken lice. It Is sodium flourldee. white powder costing AO rents a pound, sufficient to treat 100 fowls. It may be, applied by means of a shaker, duatlng the powder into the feathers, or by tak ing pinches In the ftnRers and put ting It Into the feathers and under the wings. C. D. THOMPSON. Sia son last Tuesday evening, when John Moloney and Miss Alice Stason, and Frank Jones and Miss Ethel Llchten berger were united in marriage. They escaped a noisy reception and, disappointed a lot or expectant young people at the depot, by leaving the Stason home the back way and being whisked to Grants Pass by automo bile. Doth couples, sftor a brier honeymoon, will settle here and have the good wishes or the community. - There has been a larger planting or rorn, beans and potatoes than us ual and what waa not planted too early Is coming on with promise, but cut worms and flee beetles are on tho Job and unless enornetlcnlly corn batted will prevent a full crop. Thus far fruit promises well and consider able of a "June drop" will be neces sary If we are to be spared heavy thinning. Many of the grape vines seem to be dead and never were they knowil to be so slow In putting out as this spring. D. W.
