B. Miller, recently resigned traffic manager of the Oregon-Washington Railroad & Navigation company. In his private car. The party was met by Preston B. Delano, John Hampshire- and En gineer MacVicar, of the local office of Twohy Brothers, and all immediately boarded the California & Oregon Coast passenger train, which was held for their arrival, leaving for Wildervllle and Waters Creek. , The coming of Mr. Miller Is regarded as most significant, following yester day's announcement of his alignment with Twohy Brothers in the local railroad project. Mr. Miller's car is la the local yards, bat whether the party Intends returning north this evening is not known. Miss Augusta Parker, who is a principal in the Klamath Falls schools, has come home to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Parker. Miss Gertrude Parker haa returned home for the Christmas vacation from Monmouth, where she has been attending normal school. Miss Alice M. Poole has returned from Klamath Falls, where she has been teaching, and will spend the holidays here. The Misses Mabel Hanseth and Frieda Carter have gone to their homes at Selma and Kerby, respec " tlvely, to spend the mid-year vaca tion with their parents. Miss Nora Anderson, who has been at Monmouth normal school, has come to spend Christmas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ander son. According to Hawkins, who is considerably the worse for the fracas, the two were behind the Josephine hotel and somewhat under the influ ence of "firewater," when Williams attacked him and attempted to re lieve him of his valuables. A struggle resulted which attracted the atten tion of the police. Hawkins was ar rested and held on a charge of drunkenness, but Williams made his getaway, not being arrested until today. Jackson, who resides on his homestead a few miles east of the city, near what is popu larly tanned the "dry diggings." The trouble from which the complaint arose occurred last evening la the "dry diggings," where Mr. Scrogglns has. been doing some mining work this winter. It seems there hid been dispute aa to the right of Scroggtns to mine that property, which Jack son claimed to be Included In his bomestesd. Scroggtns accuses Jack son of shoving him down a bank with a pick handle and then hitting him on the head with the same, resulting In a slightly crushed skull. Scrog glns was not seriously injured, being able to walk in to town. Jackson has since been placed under arrest and Is now In the county jail.
