An overwhelming majority of Oregon's vot ers by registration have formally declar ed that they believe in the principles of the republican party. Let them now show that they are honest by voting in accordance with tbeir declarations. The Oregon election conies before the Republican National Convention. Let every republican voter in the First Con gressional District uphold the honor of the re publican party in Oregon and strengthen the influence of Oregon's delegation in the Na tional Convention by voting for II. M. Cake for United States senator and W. C. llawley for representative in congress. If either of these republican nominees fail of election, the primary election system will be discredited and a return of boss rule will be invited. The good name of Oregon's voters will smirched and Oregon's delegation to the Na tional Convention will t placed in a humiliat ing position.. For the effect it will have on the November election it is imperative that a.I the republican nominees in the June election shall 1 elected by an overwhelming maior ity. As a believer in the principles of the re publican party, it is your duty to be at tne polls June ist and to vote for Cake and Haw- ley. Real Estate Transfers. One of the planks in the republi can state platform is as follows: We are opposed to the abuse of the initiative and referendum by the submission to the people of large numbers of measures on the same ballot. The people are too busy to give these measures the at tention necessary to insure wise ac tion. The number of measures to be submitted to any one election should be limited and it should le further provided that a measure once voted down by the people should be ineligible to a place on the ballot for a period of six years thereiitter. The latter part of this plank i clearly dirtrted against woman's suffrage. This proposition was thoroughly canvassed two years ago and was defeated by a majority ol 10,173. There ha3 been no change in public opinion on this questiou and the immigration into the state has been chielly ol those opposed to the amendment. Nev ertheless, it is again foisted on the ballot under the misleading title ol "Kqual Suffrage" in the hope that through the inattention of the vot ers and the carelessness which will follow from the large number ot propositions submitted, this meas ure may slip through.. 1 he con vention is right. This is an abuse of the initiative. The amendment ought to be defeated by a larger majority than that ol two years ago. Adv.
