Old Arkansaw al Ihe Crescent. l''rtd Raymond, whose comedy "The Missouri" Girl," has mad millions laugh, will present his new j'lay ()1J Arkansaw at the Crescent Theatre on Thursday night, I'ebru ary 27. This is the first opportun Hy local amusement lovers have had to see Old Arkansaw, and a crowded house is a certainty. Kodoj is a scientific preparation of vegetable acids with natural tli KCManis and contains the same juices found in a healthy stomach. Ivu h dose will digest inote than 3.000 grains of good food. Sold by all druggists. It should le good news to those who like clean cut, original come dy to know that Old Arkansaw will be seen here February 7. It has a plot and a well defined one at that; carries more scenery than the majority of the attractions seen here and also many mechanical effects that will prove new and pleasing. However, good natured tun is the key note that dominates the evening's entertainment and Jerry, the "darned old fool," and the other fun makers will furnish many a Kiugh before the night is over. The best remedy known today for all stomach troubles is Kodol which is guaranteed to give proiupH relief. It is a natural digestant; digests what you eat, it is pleasant to take. Sold by all druggists. The battle royal on the temper a nee question is to come off in the chief center of liquor making and liquor drinking, It shows most significantly for the progress of the temperance movement that such a battle is even possible in Chicago, where 34 per cent of the popula tion are foreign born and 59 per cent of the native population are of foreign parentage. Among these the Germans are most numerous, the Irish next, followed by the wedes, Norwegians, Bohemians, roles and Canadians. The fight which will come off at the spring elections is to be over two referen da. The liquor men will propose one referendum as to Sunday clos ing and the temperance people will propose the other on local option by wards and districts. The fight will be a bitter one, and the result awaited with much interest. Na tional Tribune. DeWitt's Carbolized Witch Hazel Salve is especially good for piles. Sold by all' druggists. Winona Grange at Tualatin went on record as strongly, in favor of the principles of the di rect primary law and Statement No. 1 at a meeting held there Saturday night. A resolution in troduced by John U. Henry, president of the Grange, was adopted pledging the Grange to the support of the statement and to the opposition if any candi dates for the legislature opjxwed it. The meeting had been called primarily to hear an address by W. R. Harris, fruit inspector, and there was a large atten dance. During the evening the ubject of the primary law and Statement No. 1 came up for dis cussion and some very iertinent opinions were given. Mr. Hen ry, in his address supporting his resolution, said that the opposi tion to the principle of direct election of United States sena tors as set out directly in State ment No. 1 sprang from the old machine leaders who were oppos ed to the primary law because it gave the direction of politics into the hands of the people of the state and robbed the bosses of their power. The plans being laid to defeat the statement and those candidates who subscribed to it were being fostered by these men who wanted to get back in to the saddle of political control. The resolution indorsing State ment No. 1 and pledging the members of Winona Grange to oppose all candidates for the leg islature who did not sign for the statement met with hearty ap proval, several speeches being made in its favor.
